Movie Critic Joel Siegel dies at age 63
"Surrounded by family and friends, ABC's beaming and insightful movie critic Joel Siegel has died in New York, after a long and remarkably courageous struggle with cancer, at the age of 63.
Both colleagues and fans delighted in his unique way of blending cheerful good humor and piercing critical acumen in reviews that made them instantly clear to anyone. You knew exactly what he thought — often with the bonus of a good laugh."

Re: Movie Critic Joel Siegel dies at age 63
I was so sad to hear of his passing. I thought he was great- he was my favorite movie critic. He seemed like such a nice man and I loved his honest, no-B.S. style of reviewing films. His enthusiasm for films he enjoyed was infectious. When I was a kid, I remember anxiously awaiting his GMA reviews for films I wanted to see- like Poltergeist, Return of the Jedi, Deathtrap (which he had a small part in), and fortunately, he loved all of those and so did I. I even recorded his review of The Phantom Menace, which he was very disappointed in (and so was I, as it turned out).
I trusted his judgement more than anyone and I'll miss him.

Methinks Kevin Smith is gonna be feeling some pangs of guilt tomorrow.

For what? I don't think he went overboard with his argument over Clerks 2, at least the one I read at his website. http://silentbobspeaks.com/?p=263
Rest in peace, Joel.
The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

He really raked him over the coals on live radio. I'm not saying Kevin should feel "pangs of guilt", but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I mean, I kinda felt bad for Siegel at the time, even though I thought Smith was correct to be pissed. Knowing he was battling serious cancer at the 'event' changes my perspective, so I wouldn't be surprised if it changed Smith's. Just human nature.

From the LA time

You see, he was on TV. TV is where we saw him. He reviewed movies on the TV.
Those are the things I was thinking when I foolishly started this thread in the TV Forum.
"Emmy Award"...that's a TV thingy

Re: Movie Critic Joel Siegel dies at age 63
My mom used to know someone who got us screening tkts. to the muppet movies at the Ziegfeld in NYC back in the late 70's, early 80's and he was always there a few rows ahead. I remember tuning in that nite to see what he had thought of the films.
RIP, Mr. Siegel.
Gonna miss you.
