Oh My: 2009 movies
Did we really get screwed by the writer's strike? I am seeing all these cool postings about movies coming out in 2010, 2011 and 2012 that make me drool for that new decade (ugh) but for the life of me I can't figure out what to be excited about movie-wise in 2009. Star Trek was supposedly bumped to next year because of it but really, beyond that, help me out: will there be a bumper crop of potentially cool movies in the summer of 2009? 2008 has been a banner year so far in amount and scope of summer offerings and it looks to continue to be fun but I have to wonder...what's next year looking like? Any ideas?

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
Here's a tentative schedule:
2009 in film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Not really much for me, but some of the big names that stand out:
Star Trek
Avatar
Land of the Lost
Wolverine
Watchmen
Wolf Man
Terminator
GI Joe
Another Steve Martin Pink Panther? Also, I can't believe they're remaking Pelham 1,2,3 again.

Aside from Terminator and possibly Wolverine, that list doesn't get me very excited.

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
I think there's a few missing from that list (ie. Prince of Persia, Transformers 2 ect.)

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
Well for me the return of James Cameron to directing a Sci-fi feature with Avatar alone mades the year worthwhile.
Also very interested in seeing Trek and Watchmen, who knows how they'll turn out. I don't have high hopes for Wolverine, Wolf Man and Terminator 4 but again you never know.
Jurassic Park IV and Superman: Man of Steel are missing from your list, maybe they got bumped?
Here's a few more 2009 films I'm really looking forward to
Shutter Island (2009) Dir. Martin Scorsese
Public Enemies (2009) Dir. Michael Mann
Frankenweenie (2009) Dir. Tim Burton
Rendezvous with Rama (2009) Dir. David Fincher - this has been in the works for years so I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't materialize.
The Collection (Blu-Ray High Definition/DVD)
Pre-orders - BLU-RAY: Akira, The Dark Knight, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Death Proof, King Kong, La Femme Nikita, Planet Terror, Raging Bull, Ronin, The Third Man DVD: .................

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
Like Jim K, AVATAR alone makes the year worthwhile. I can't imagine anyone who is a fan of the summer tentpole formula being anything but rabidly excited for the prospect of AVATAR. It isn't a summer film, but whatever you think you've seen in the realm of "raising the bar" is about the be crushed. The best director of visual effects, and the best at integrating them into a cohesive and dramatic narrative, is spending $300M to push the technology to unseen realms.
2009 also has Public Enemies by Michael Mann

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
Avatar stands out big time as its the return of James Cameron with a monstrous sci-fi epic no less.
Wolverine will be huge also.
Looks about right to me.

I'm not sure about Jurassic Park but Superman and Rama aren't coming any time soon.
Looking forward to Avatar and The Wolf Man. Star Trek and Watchmen will be interesting at least.

Re: Oh My: 2009 movies
I am also excited for Watchmen and The Wolf Man (Rick Baker alone would get me there). But Public Enemies and Avatar are the real gems for me

Just read a blurb somewhere quoting Laura Dern saying that JP4 would be at least 2010 or later.
