DOA: Dead Or Alive, interesting!!!
Talking about guilty pleasure, I think I might actually go and watch this one. Kind of a Mortal Kombat with really hot chicks. Cheesey, yes but nothing beats a kick butt movie with hot women
Here's the trailer

Hm.. Different trailer from what AICN posted a couple of days ago.
At least the filmmakers know what the main appeal of the DoA video game franchise was: hot chicks in skimpy clothing beating the crap out of each other. (or, just hot chicks in skimpy clothing for the beach vollyball game.)

Re: DOA: Dead Or Alive, interesting!!!
Director Cory Yuen has made some of the more brutal Hong Kong action movies over the past 2 decades, Righting Wrongs being a seminal action film from the 80s, which makes this lighter than air, color saturated film somewhat of an anomaly for the director. Those looking for well-choreographed martial arts sequences should look elsewhere, actually those looking for a strong story, credible acting, or satisfying narrative structure should follow the fight fans, yet I can’t say the film doesn’t work. Based on a popular video fighting game, the film contains a sort of visual exuberance and breezy attitude that left me admiring it more than I would have thought possible. Yuen eschews his more ragged style to copy the games blatantly juvenile obsessions of ogling beautiful women, who also happen to fight better than most men, in visually striking areas. Putting it on tier with other video game brethren (DOOM, Super Mario Bros) the film reaches a level of artistry rarely if ever achieved in video game adaptations (I’m thinking of a shot of a shattering mirror that was actually startling.) That Yuen and company seem aware of the dubious merit in adapting video games from the outset, has allowed for a complete dedication to a rampant silliness (not to be confused with dumbness) that is rarely seen in today’s grim studio action output.

I'm a HUGE fan of the DOA series. This movie looks awful, and bad casting on Kasumi to boot.

Re: DOA: Dead Or Alive, interesting!!!
I have not seen the film so I can not say definitively that it is bad, but it features Eric Roberts in the cast so that isn't inspiring optimism on my part.......I mean it's Eric Roberts, Man!
Well...that and the fact that it is based on a video game series who's primary claim to fame is that it forwarded jiggling Breast Physics in gaming.

Re: DOA: Dead Or Alive, interesting!!!
Awful film, which doesn't mean it isn't worth having [wink] I have a whole shelf of awful films. The girls are great to look at. Eric Roberts, a long way from his Oscar nominated role in Runaway Train, grins a lot. Actually I didn't recognise him first time I saw him in the film, there isn't that many Eric Roberts films I've seen. Best of the Best was a guilty pleasure back in the video renting days [smiles whistfully].
Btw DOA was out here in the UK almost a year ago, the dvd's been out for some time now. I'll wait for the x-rated special extended edition.
