Re: Shrek 3 is coming!
I saw this a couple of days ago. Parts I liked and other parts fell flat. I like that the film returned, more or less, to the premise of the first one. That premise being the skewed take on popular fairy tale and fantasy characters. I thought it was definitely better than the second one which was marred by an overdose of topical humour based on Hollywood navel gazing. Thankfully, the references to Hollywood and its celebrities were minimized or non-existant.
I thought the film relied a little too much on slapstick humour and some of the characterizations took turns that had no logical build up. The Cinderella, Snow White. and Sleeping Beauty characters were prime examples of characters whose personalities took a wild turn without any anticipatory build-up.
I also thought that some of the music used in the film was badly chosen. I thought the use of "Live and Let Die" was just an atrocious choice for the scene where it was used. For me, it just did not fit the scene at all. I was left wondering what the hell they were thinking when they chose that piece of music.
For me, I would put this film firmly ahead of Shrek 2, but way behind Shrek 1.
