David-

Nobody really knows the answers to your quesitons, except Abrams and his team. There is just very little information at this point. We are all in the dark! They are keeping the details close to themselves for now. I believe Nimoy himself said in an interview that he cannot divulge certain plot details when pressed. It might give away too much at this point.

And those plot points you mentioned above are all conjecture at this point.

Congrates on the book!

Nelson

Thanks, Nelson (for the info and the congrats). I guess I'll just wait to hear more concrete news like everyone else.

BTW, just for the record - wasn't Kirk captain of the Enterprise at the age of 30?

Doesn't Kirk say he's 34 years old in the ep where they age out of control? (Damn, I can't believe I don't remember the name of the episode!)

Ah, thank you! It was making me crazy. I was too lazy to look it up, I knew one of you guys would come to my rescue. I had The Naked Time stuck in my head and it wasn't coming loose.

You're welcome David. And Shatner was 35 when TOS started in 1966. So typical of the time, they say you're younger then you really are. I guess it's the same today!

The AICN news smells fake to me. I thought Bones, Sulu & Uhura were not on the Enterprise when Kirk joined it?

I get what you're saying, but it's kind of beside the point. Paramount is not looking to extend the Trek story further forward here; they've been doing that for about twenty years and the end result is that the brand is almost meaningless. You're thinking of Star Trek as a universe; they're thinking of it as a set of specific characters and situations.

You know what an even better way to sidestep continuity and break out of said box would be? Just friggin' do it. Treat it like any other remake or TV show that's being made into a movie. Make a good early adventure of Kirk, Spock, McCoy & company, because the fans are coming anyway and if they like what you've done, they'll either bend over backwards to explain why it fits into existing continuity or accept it as a different and entertaining interpretation of the same source material.

They were present in Vonda McIntyre's Enterprise: The First Adventure.

Which means nothing; the tie-in novels and comics are, as far as the people making TV shows and movies are concerned, just fanfic that Paramount gets paid for.

And, honestly, if there's something in an episode says otherwise? Watch three random episodes of TOS and you'll probably find something contradictory.

I wonder what they are going to do when it comes to the ship designs? I sure hope they follow the old designs or go retro. I don't think they could possibly go with a complete overhaul, because its the same universe with Nimoy in it.
