Does the bridge have wood floors? I've always thought that would look cool and give it an elegant nautical feel. It may just be a brown something else though.
EDIT; Also, is it REALLY the bridge--or does it just look like the bridge?
Spoiler:
"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a DARK KNIGHT."
Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
Its been confirmed as the bridge.
Nelson, as to Spock attacking Kirk, could it be he believes Kirk did something to Pike? Quinto said his Spock is still finding himself so displays of emotion are likely.
Zack, I do think that the gold shirt will be saved until the end.
I'm thinking there is another nod to the Pike era in the rank braids on the sleeves. They appear solid like they were in the pilots. The braided versions may also appear at the end of the movie.
Edit to add - I see Nelson pointed this out already plus the silver instead of gold. Sharp eyes mate!
Every man is my superior, in that I may learn from him.

No, I mean I know it's the bridge set. I just mean that it's possible that within the context of the story that they aren't on a "real" bridge.
EDIT: I see they confirmed that its not a "training room" scene, though I found it funny the way they said it, as if they would have to build a different set for it, lol.

That last image looks awesome! I think the bridge looks great. JJ has said many times they wanted this Trek to feel more real and like it's really is our future. The bridge, IMO, looks exactly like I would expect something evolving from our current tech. All the bright colors and lights, flat touch screens, looks very Apple-ish, which is how most new gadgets are designed to look these days. I think all the images are great and I love the bridge! Can't wait for the trailer in a month! The uniforms look amazing IMO as well. Classic yet updated all in one.

I have to wonder what JJ meant when he said this:
Quote:
It's funny, it's scary, it's dramatic, emotional and entertaining–all without having the stuff you'd think a movie called "Star Trek" would require. That to me is exciting.
I wonder what he means by 'what a Star Trek movie would require?' I hate to sound or imply negativity here. Perhaps he means it wouldn't require a space battle. Or big evil villians. Or I hate to say, cheese.

. . . I suspect [JJ Abrams] means it will be more real. Oh well, I'm trying to ignore this tendency and wait to see for myself!
"More real" than what?
For my part, I suspect he means we're about to go from "classic Trek" to "modern, hip-cool Trek".
[Abrams] was also drawn to the franchise's idealism, he says.
"I think a movie that shows people of various races working together and surviving hundreds of years from now is not a bad message to put out right now," he says. "In a world where a movie as incredibly produced as 'The Dark Knight' is raking in gazillions of dollars, 'Star Trek' stands in stark contrast. It was important to me that optimism be cool again."
"My only regret is that the movie can't come out sooner," says Leonard Nimoy, who will don his pointy ears to play an elder Spock. "I think the world could use it."
The younger Spock, played by Zachary Quinto, says "Star Trek" is a franchise "that offers hope for unity."
(1) "I think a movie that shows people of various races working together and surviving hundreds of years from now is not a bad message to put out right now."
A "Roddenberry-esque" enough answer.
(2) "It was important to me that optimism be cool again."
Good luck combining "optimism" and today's "(hip-)cool" ("cp /COOL-2008 /STARTREKFRANCHISE1966-2005.RIP"???). (Oh, good use of the subjunctive, though. )
I still want to know what those "expected requirements" mentioned before are.
(3) a. "My only regret is that the movie can't come out sooner. I think the world could use it."
b. "Star Trek . . . [is a franchise that] offers hope for unity."
Ahhhhh, yes, the "Star Trek-movement", Vulcan-branch.

Thanks for the link to the EW article Rex. I may actually buy this issue.
I slept on the new images we are seeing now and for the most part, I like what I see. But I have to say, as a professional designer, I can understand the need and embrace the idea of modernizing the designs from TOS for the modern audience. It's good to challenge the accepted norms. So the look of the new bridge puzzles me. What Matt Jefffries did for pennies with plywood and paint is still an extremely effective design. The new bridge has all the cool stuff a modern starship needs. But I can't see the logic of the design from what we can see of it. There's a line between good logical design, and then designing for a visually exciting looking set for filming in. I am not feeling a good blend here, yet. I am seeing a lot of visual clutter to make it feel exciting. The goose neck lights are an homage to The Cage, but I am not understanding what that girl's station is all about and that big glass panel behind her is for. I hope this new Abrams bridge takes the design to another level. There could be a very cool whizbang aspect of it we can't see yet. ie: moving panels, doors closing, etc. Same with the props! But we'll see in a few more months what the whole bridge looks like!
The Motion Picture bridge was the coolest incarnation, and the TOS bridge was the one that you aspire to.
As I said earlier, I really like the costumes. They have the feel of The Cage. The black one Kirk wears is interesting and I look forward to understanding what that's all about.
The window dressing is pretty cool so far.
Ultimately, the main thing is that the story is great and we care about these people like we did 42 years ago.
Edit: Chris Doohan has chimed in at Trekmovie, he stood in that Bridge set and has seen the rest of the sets and he said it has a real feel to it, that it could actually work. So I look forward to see the rest.
