JJ responds regarding William Shatner, the movie's length and if he'll do another directorial turn for a sequel.
As some of you probably read on Trekmovie, JJ clarified the William Shatner issue. JJ said in the past that they tried very hard to write him into the movie and Orci and Kurtzman did something that was pretty good. But in the end, it was felt to be contrived and not worthy for a Shatner return or Shatner and the character. So they dropped it,but really wanted him in. This was misinterpreted by the press that they offered Shatner a cameo. And Shatner had publicly stated he knew nothing about the film and had no offers. The truth is Abrams never made the offer to Shatner and they were internally trying to resolve a way to get Shatner in, but the press got that to Shatner. I knew something like this was the case! No ill will on anyone's part.
The movie looks to be about 2 hours long, 75% of the effects are done, the titles are done and the score has been written. So the length could vary as the effects work wraps up. They look to be done by December, on the original schedule. Apparently Abrams doesn't like movies longer then 2 hours, who has the time?
Paramount apparently wants to do a sequel and are trying to get the entire crew and cast signed up. That includes Abrams as director or producer. Abrams is up for it.
The news continues to be positive.
