With inflation, it's still the highest grossing Star Trek film with about 225 M domestically. I wonder if this film will finally beat that.

Indeed, it was 10 lean years between 1969 and 1979. Especially in those now seemingly ancient pre-Internet days. Trek news was scarce and often very stale.

Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
In those days all we had was TV Guide reporting on Gene Roddenberry's efforts with the then idea of a new Star Trek series before the first film was announced and Starlog Magazine!
Granted we may not get the kind of reveal of the new Enterprise as it was done in TMP, but I'm sure they've got something special planned, it is a character as much as Kirk and Spock.
My earlier comment was really more about not wanting to see too much before the film opens, a partially shrouded tease is enough of the new characters of Kirk, Spock and McCoy is enough. And they did do that already at Comic Con.

Funny clip over at UGO.
JJ and Orci are checked on their Trek Geek when asked what to do in the case of a breach in the warp containment field.

Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
Trekmovie has a temp image up from the Creation Convention going on in Vegas right now where Paramount is giving out the latest new poster for the new film. It's got Sulu, Scotty, McCoy and Chekov.
I think Simon Pegg looks like Tony Shalhoub from Galaxy Quest and not Scotty. Though the Galaxy Quest character had the same function. McCoy looks like a real tough guy. Sulu looks better then I thought as I just have this image of Cho as the dude from those movies. Chekov looks okay too, almost Julian Bashier like.
