Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
I'm sure at some point, we'll start seeing images of the new Enterprise and the costumes. I remember that first teaser poster for Star Trek The Motion Picture and it's a painting of an earlier version of the ship flying at a cool angle with photos of the cast faces below. That's a very cool poster because it has the feel of the posters of old amd feels very exciting. Though I think the official poster is excellent too and appropriate, the earlier is cool too.

I'm sure they have plenty they could show, if they wanted too, considering the film wrapped months ago and they should be well into post production. The film could very well be completed before the original release date and just sit on a self until May.

I cannot believe we have to wait another year. That just blows. Just look how the releases are now. Every week a blockbuster opens up. X-mas would have been better.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Note the refit "movie" nacelles, but the secondary hull and saucer are still very "TOS"-flavored. When it became a feature film, Andrew Probert took over and completely revamped the rest of the ship to match.

That is a great poster, and I remember when it was everywhere in the fall of '79. I am also a fan of the theatrical poster of the film (Kirk, Spock and Ilia heads in the transporter beam), which I think is the best of all the film posters (some of which were lame).

An Enterprise model was built for Phase II. It was never used, but it looks a lot like it's big screen counterpart.

Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
I had a goofy thought this evening whilst listening to Space Seed in the car in traffic.
This is just fun musings, don't take it to be meant as serious; woudn't it be interesting if a Star Trek movie was made that remade Space Seed with this new cast.
Space Seed has everything. Action, adventure, time travel and romance. With the new effects capabilities and stupid-fast-cut edits, a new Khan could be there to toss a poor Chris Pine around engineering!
I know this would be quickly dismissed as nothing more then a rehash of the original, but it was a fun thought of how cool this could be if redone with modern filmmaking techniques.

Nelson,
Well, I like your thinking here. More often than not, I like the 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it' addage; but I realize that I am in the minority and that most would most likely wish to see an entirely new storyline. Still, it's an interesting idea!

Re: Star Trek XI- Official now- 12.25.2008 (merged)
I agree Scott, that future Trek projects or any, should be an original work. It was a just a goofy thought.
After writing this, I realized that JJ Abrams is doing a modern Star Trek film using his modern sensibilities. If there's going to be a fist fight as Kirk often got into, I would imagine it could go the way of the Bourne films, those are pretty intense fights. I just wonder if his shirt will be torn open too. ![]() | |
