I hope he respects the original Jeffries design and stays true to it with minor deviations and detailing.
Well we better still have Jeffries tubes. If not Scotty won't be able to save the ship.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Lou, I really hope that story is true. For now, I am not 100% believing it until there's an official announcement. Or when we see The Shat standing next to Chris Pine and Quinto and Nimoy!
edit: I wonder now, Spoiler could be following and I have not read any spoilers so it's specualtion. His participation could be real. I'm beginning to think it's tied with the plot and is planned to be a surprise. So the stories of his participation or not is a secret or meant to drive up interest. Will he or won't he.

Shatner appearance:
I also hope it's true and based on plot points that I've gleaned a cameo makes sense. Also, creating a debate over his participation (will he?, won't he?) would also make sense...
Spoiler:
If he appears at the end and they are trying to surprise us.
The following is speculation, but since some it it is based on spoiler info I'll hide it as a spoiler:
Spoiler:
We've heard that the plot involves Spock traveling back in time to the original series to try to fix the time-line. I'm assuming the the big baddie, Nero, has messed it up to destroy the Federation and Kirk. Obviously Spock will succeed in stopping him. Also it is obvious that his repaired time-line will be similar, but not necessarily identical to, the one we know from Next Gen, DS9, Voyager, etc. This will allow them to deviate from established continuity in future films. It also means that the surprise could be that Kirk is still alive after the events of Generations. I'm assuming that Spock returns to his own time at the end of the movie and is surprised to meet Kirk (who is supposed to be dead).

Spock, raising an eyebrow: "Aren't you supposed to be dead?"
Kirk: "Aren't you?"
Spock: "I seem to have failed in restoring the time-line. - Fascinating."
Kirk: "Spock, I'd say you did just fine. Shall we call this one close enough, or would you rather try it again until I'm dead?"
Spock, hiding a slight smile: "Your assessment is logical. As you put it, we will have to call this one "close enough"."

That's exactly what I have been hoping would happen. The ending of Generations still sits badly with me, and I will always think it was not befitting of a great character.
Brian, if it was up to me, you'd be hired to write the script.

Thanks for the compliment Sam. When the movie comes out and it's nothing like I wrote you can always bookmark my post and pretend.
I still think I got the basic plot down, but I wonder how they'll have a satisfying ending conversation, just before the end credits, without the Shat. Spock talking to anyone else just doesn't matter as much. (Unless they kill off Spock.... again.... hmmm?)
