"Holiday" review thread

Saw Holiday last night with a bunch of my daughter's friends as a birthday party (lucky me !!!)

Got there 1 hr early to ensure they could sit together in what I anticipated would be a fully packed 10pm showing. [insert crickets chirping]

Very heavy on relationship/dependency drama, which aint my bag (per my wife) and was about 45 minutes too long for my taste. One comment about this movie was all the "head shots". Very few panorama, everything extremely close. While I think Cameron is a hottie, seeing her 15 ft high mug stretched across the big screen was a bit much for 2+ hrs.....

Caveat - I probably missed every bit of hidden meaning and/or theme in this movie. If your shallow (like me ), best bet is to pass unless you need some brownie points with the missus

So you're saying the theater was pretty empty? Funny - when I saw Poseidon on opening night last spring, I also arrived early to get a good spot since I figured it'd be really crowded. Nope! I won't say I had my pick of seats when the movie started, but for opening night of a big summer potential blockbuster, it was also crickets chirping territory...

Re: "Holiday" review thread

I thought it started out pretty shaky, but the different character arcs take hold and lead to some engaging viewing where you end up wondering how things will work out for them because you want things to work out for them because they are decent folk.

It's totally a chick flick, but for its 135 minute running time, it didn't feel that long, more like 120 minutes, so in that respect, I think the acting from the principals kept my interest and I wasn't bored with the storylines.

I give it 3 stars, or a grade of B.

Saw this one last night with my daughters. It was "warm & fuzzy chic flick night" at Timobi's.

I really liked it. I do think it could have been trimmed just a bit. No biggie though. Kate Winslet can do anything. She was awesome in this. Cameron Diaz was also very good. I had a little trouble with Jack Black at first, but quickly went away. For some reason, whenever I see him, I immediately think of his performance in School of Rock. Which was GREAT btw.

I think every time Cameron was on screen, my daughters would say, "Oh I SO want that outfit!"...God Help us.

Cute film...and a very good one.

8/10

I also saw this few nights ago on Blu-ray and it was terrible! I love good romantic-comedies but the Cameron Diaz/Jude Law sections bored me to death. Recommended for torturing your adversary.
