Re: *** Official The Departed Discussion Thread
I didn't mind the rat. It wasn't supposed to be subtle. The whole last scene was kinda played for its humor (Sullivan's comical reaction to his fate) and the rat was just the punch line.

Re: *** Official The Departed Discussion Thread
did not read most of this thread ... but this is by far the best Marty flick since Goodfellas. biggest surprise of the year as I thought he was done, even though I have been a fan for over 16 years.
i have not felt this high coming out of the theater since seeing Reservoir Dogs back in the days.
just amazing!
and yes, I saw IA, and it was a great film that provided a great blueprint, but Marty took this to levels I would have never guessed.
the trailer though is one of the worst out there ... well ... then again maybe not ... as I would never guess how great this movie is based on it alone.

Re: *** Official The Departed Discussion Thread
I've only seen the first Infernal Affairs flick though my sister has the sequels so I guess I could borrow them from her whenever I feel like it. Either way, I preferred Scorsese's take. This is probably due mostly to his direction. He's a true master of the medium and half the joy of watching the film is simply out of knowing you're watching an extremely well made movie. For me, Scorsese's direction made a great movie (Infernal Affairs) into an excellent one (The Departed).

Re: *** Official The Departed Discussion Thread
imho, IA is much better than departed. i liked IA's pathos much better than the direction this remake took.
to the edge of eternity and depth of infinity, stupidity knows no bound.

That's InFernal Affairs. I recommend buying the Hong Kong release as it has a very immersive DTS track. It also has a commentary but I've no idea if it's subtitled or not.

Re: *** Official The Departed Discussion Thread
Saw this tonight. Best movie I have seen all year. I am with Tim, I was sad to see Leo get it. My wife who really doesn't get into movies sat straight up and said "NOoooo" when Leo got it. Great film.
