Who won her year, Fantasia? Or Ruben? Either way, neither's career is hitting the heights, whilst Jennifer is getting Oscar buzz -- what an achievement for an acting rookie!

Fantasia. Ruban was the second season, J-Hud and Fan were in the third season.

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
Well, going by what's been winning/nominated thus far, I think this year's Oscars are going to be fairly predictable. My early predictions for the big categories:
Best Picture: The Departed
Best Director: Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Best Actor: Forest Whitaker, The Last King Of Scotland
Best Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen
Best Supporting Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio, The Departed
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
Dreamgirls should win Best Picture, and Murphy Best Supporting Actor. I wouldn't count Will Smith out, either. The only dead certainties are Mirren, Scorsese and Hudson. SAG have at least seen through the ham sandwich that was Jack Nicholson's performance in The Departed. There's also a fight in the Best Original Screenplay category between Little Miss Sunshine and The Queen. All in all, this is a tighter race than last year, when the only surprise was Crash winning. Hopefully, the actors branch will see more sense this year and not nominate and award Booby (sorry, Bobby) for Best Picture for no reason other than it employs a lot of its members.

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
Sigh, once again no love for BSG in the TV drama categories.

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
Director's Guild of America nominations
note, the DGA for the last four consecutive years has nominated the eventual five best picture nominees, they may very well have done it again this year.
Bill Condon - Dreamgirls
Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris - Little Miss Sunshine
Stephen Frears - The Queen
Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu - Babel
Martin Scorsese - The Departed

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
It's funny, I didn't look in this thread because I thought it was about last year's Oscars! Brokeback Mountain's loss is still fresh, raw and very painful and I didn't want to be reminded. I saw the thread at the top before I just now posted in the Guild thread, and thought "what the hell could they still be talking about a year later, and where's the 2007 Oscar thread?" so I looked at the last post. Surprise surprise, it's a current thread!
Adam, I think you have everything well in order with posting the Guild noms, so I'm going to quit updating the Guild thread and let it die.

Re: Oscar Watch 2006
to me the year of the oscars refers to the year the films were from not when the awards were awarded. hence, 2006 oscars will be awarded in february 2007.
Don't shutter the guild thread! it's so much better than the disorganized mess this thread is.
in other news...
oh and the here's the short list of films eligable for makeup, I can't believe the Queen didn't make it.
“Apocalypto”
“Click”
“Pan’s Labyrinth”
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”
“The Prestige”
“The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause”
“X-Men The Last Stand”
My guess is the final candidates are going to be Apocalypto, Pan's Labyrinth and MAYBE Pirates, but since only one of the crew on the Flying Dutchman was actual makeup (Bill Nighy) I wouldn't be surprised to see it miss.

Oh, ok! I didn't want to step on your toes.
As far as the dating, I know that it's a convention, but it confuses me so I've never done it and forgot about it. It does make sense.
