Part of the quick deflation is due to a palpable lack of chemistry between Hanks and Tautou, an odd thing in itself given their genial accessibility in many previous roles. Howard, normally a generous director of actors, makes them both look stiff, pasty and inexpressive in material that provides them little opportunity to express basic human nature
|
I kind of suspected that. From the very first moment the first trailer came out, I said here, this thing doesn't seem exciting.

Ron Howard's adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, which debuts at Cannes Film Festival, fails to live up to the hype that surrounded Dan Brown's novel.

One of the book's triumphs is the way in which it allows the reader to solve the clues before Langdon and Neveu, giving the reader a smug satisfaction at their own perceived intelligence.

Ah, I love bad reviews.

Scriptwriter Akiva Goldsman has produced a script that is clunky in parts and downright cringeworthy in others.

I find it amazing that the guy who wrote BATMAN AND ROBIN and the LOST IN SPACE remake is not only still working on major films, but even has an Oscar to his credit!

Re: Hanks Confirmed for Da Vinci Code, Release Date Set
It's reasonable to think the film will make a big initial boxoffice splash, but these reports on how dull it is make me think it will have no legs.

Re: Hanks Confirmed for Da Vinci Code, Release Date Set
I hope it's not another Bonfire of the Vanities for Hanks, but it doesn't sound as though it will end up being the massive blockbuster it's been made out to be.

Re: Hanks Confirmed for Da Vinci Code, Release Date Set
If it's really that bad, I'm guessing a huge opening weekend with a steep drop-off after that.

Re: Hanks Confirmed for Da Vinci Code, Release Date Set
The one theater owner I know who has seen it has told me they were not very impressed. They like the book, but found the movie to be "plodding" and they thought Tom Hanks was the wrong actor for the part.
He actually made a reference to me I thought was funny: "It was like a very slow paced "National Treasure"

Jeffery Wells didn't like it either, saying it is the worst movie Ron Howard had directed since Far And Away. (He must have wiped The Grinch out of his brain...)

Re: Hanks Confirmed for Da Vinci Code, Release Date Set
Wow I don't think I've ever seen a rating of 0% rotten before. Only seven reviews however (as of this post).
