When it come to changes. It cracks me up how some fans are so willing to defend changes for the sake of the studio's & pleasing the general audience by getting rid of the so-called hokeyness. Example let not show The Watcher or Galactus because they are 15 ft tall & no one would believe it yet they will gobble up the Transformers with no problem.

For those of you who are gonna go see this, I heard The Watcher is seen somewhere and to stay through the credits.

Re: Fantastic Four 2 (June 15, 2007 release)

I grew up reading the John Byrne era of the FF. I have always loved reading the FF because they were different from other superhero comic books because they were more like a family than a team. That is why I actually loved the first FF movie and am dying to see the extended cut. Which brings me to FF2.

I liked it but I didn't come out of it like I did the first film. Even though the action scenes in this sequel seems more polished, the film just felt forced. A lot of the early scened in the movie were cringe inducing. The "bachelor" party especially. Sure there were the usual family dynamics that were present just like the first film but it just felt corny.

The movie only started to get interesting once the Surfer shows up at the wedding. However, it still needed a better back story to the Surfer. I know they are probably saving it for a Surfer movie (which I hope will happen) but an extra 10 minutes to the film would have helped.

As for the special effects, overall it was better than the first film but Reed's stretching still needs some work. It only looked good when Johnny had his powers. It seems most of the effects budget was on the Surfer though. I thought he looked awesome and he did not look like a T1000.

Yes, some of the acting was bad. But I think it had more to do with the bad dialog they were given. However, I cannot say anything bad about Jessica Alba because she is a Goddess in my book.

Overall, it was OK. Probably ***/*****.

After seeing this film, it felt like I was reading a classic Marvel comics story from 60s.

What an accomplishment!!!!

Eh, it's just a harmless summer film, but I'm really all superheroed out at this point.

I feel like you read my mind. Its exactly how I felt with both movies. I think its time for a new director. But we all know it won't happen until it bombs.

Re: Fantastic Four 2 (June 15, 2007 release)

I'd have to watch the first one again to see which is worse, but since I won't do that to myself, I'll just say that FF2 was not good.

The general was a pretty lousy character.

I don't quite understand how
Spoiler:
being in China gives them the idea to get a Japanese-style wedding?

jessica alba looks creepy though with the contacts and wig
I've been catching her on the late-night shows, with more normal hair color, and she looks great. Her skin tone just does not match blonde hair. This is a fundamental casting error. Plus there's her acting....

Don't recall anything. There's a little something after the credits roll for about five seconds, but you'd catch that unless you were sprinting out of the theater.

But I think that in recent years, the genre has decided to take itself too seriously. In some instances, that can be a good thing ("Batman Begins" as an example).

In 2005, "Fantastic Four" was universally panned by critics. Yet I really enjoyed it at the theater. Yes, it was short. Yes, it was corny. Yes, it was more "family oriented" than other genre movies.

Unlike many of you, I actually read Marvel comic books in the late 70s and early 80s when they were printed on newsprint with poor ink and weren't meant to be "super collectible" and didn't go by the name "graphic novel."

They were 40 cents at the grocery store in the magazine aisle.

They weren't serious...at least not in the way that people think. The characters and plots were melodramatic, but it was cheesy fun.

Personally, I think the "Fantastic Four" movies stay true to the spirit of that era in comic book history.

My biggest beef with the "Spider-Man" movies is that somewhere along the way they decided they had to try and be "high art" -- giving relationships between the principle characters depth. That resulted in the recent third outing being way too long, way too dark (in certain parts) and losing its "breezy fun" quality.

I think "Superman Returns" suffered from similar problems. Instead of being "fun," we had to give Lois Lane a kid and baggage.

Maybe I am easily amused. I enjoyed FF2. It stays true to the comic book genre -- more importantly it stays true to what a popcorn movie is all about.

The genius of the FF movies (yes, I just used the word genius) is that they work on simplicity -- and don't give you more than you need.

It harkens back to a lot of the action movies of the 80s -- which implemented humor and fun...and lacked any real depth.

A lot of the "depth" that people got out of comics in the 70s and 80s stemmed from their imaginations after reading the stories. Comic books left you wanting more -- you simply couldn't wait until the next issue (a month later) to find out what happened.

Those publications were geared toward kids. I think we have forgotten that in the equation. Instead, with sci-fi/fantasy movies we have this burning desire to make movies for cynical 35 year-old men who used to be kids.

This is a movie you could take kids to and that a family could enjoy. You can't say the same thing about "Batman Begins."

Well said, I read comic books when they were 10 cents and nowhere near collectible and thats the thing that i like about the FF movies is that they are perfect for watching and enjoying with my pre-teen kids.

Good lord, there's nothing worse than the foul stench of desperation when someone wants to be famous.

The movie sucked on every level. Gawd what an embarassing piece of poodoo. 2 out of 10 - all for the Silver Surfer. He looked great even though he was hardly in the frakkin' movie.

Come on. FF2 did exactly what it set out to do: entertain. No big social message, no pretension of being more than it could be...hell, parts didn't even make sense and Alba is quite possibly the worst actress on the screen this year. But it is a popcorn movie in every way. Inoffensive to the kids, explode-y enough for the adults, on par with the first (which was undeservedly based IMO). Leave the heavy stuff to X-Men and Batman; keep FF the light comic franchise.
