Re: Terminator 4

I hated T3 so much that I probably wouldn't have even bothered seeing a fourth one. However, if they are getting Christian Bale to play a major role in the third sequel in a series (if he was just doing it for a paycheck, why not just do some new dumb action movie franchise?), I think/hope that this movie may be good.

Heh, I found T3 a worthy sequel. The crane sequence rivals anything done in the previous two movies.

Bale with McG? I'm still doubtful.

I can't believe this shit...WTF...Bale??? Not with McG, which would be a red-flag to be attached to his project!

Has Bale become some sort blatant of money grabber?

Remember Kingsley in Bloodrayne & Stamp in Elektra...sell off!

I said it before but if that's the case, why wouldn't he just do a new action movie that a studio wants to make a franchise out of rather than a FOURTH Terminator movie. If he's in an action movie that fails to catch on, it didn't work and that's that. If he's in Terminator 4 and it doesn't work, he looks like a chump for even being in part 4 of any series.

I'm going to get crucified for saying this, but given the direction #4 will be going in, it won't matter to me if Arnold isn't in it, the story doesn't necessarily require him.

Ok at least I will not crucify you upside down.

I am sure they could figure out a way to make the story line without Arnold. But I am not sure the movie would do as well without Arnold player the terminator? And especially after Arnold says he is the one that killed John Connor. So unless they show a flashback and do not actually show John being killed. I am not sure how they could not use Arnold in T4? Are they going to use Arnolds model number as unskined terminators?

It just seems like Arnold made the Terminator movie and for there to be no Arnold, not sure it will work well.

I feel that Terminator 4 is a must if the story line is to be completed, T3 left the story wide open and unfinished. If T4 tanks I would not blame Arnold for the failure, I would blame the writers for a bad script. We all know that Arnold can bring a action character alive so I am not sure why he could not do the same for T4. Granted I would rather have Arnold do another Conan flick before T4. But I feel and have always felt that T4 is a very necessary

I understand his point, but he's got to realize that a PG-13 will appeal greatly to a wider audience, hence more money. Now I'm all for limbs getting blown off, heck it's war but if you want to market past that, then PG-13 is the only way to do it.

But I guess the point is that you can have just as much success with a film that is rated R... especially when the series was built upon that rating. Terminator 2 is proof of that. The recent 300 is proof of that. There is no reason to think that the new Die Hard made as much money as it did because it was PG-13.. it might've made the exact same amount even if it was rated R.

Re: Terminator 4

I think this rating grew out of how poorly T3 performed. They want to double their money. So, let the kids in. Too bad no one understands that the script was the main issue and the film suffered for it -- it had nothing to do with the rating. T3 is an embarrassment.

James Cameron should have kept control of this franchise. A director with vision needs to helm the Terminator films. Jonathan Mostow has no vision. I'm interested to see what McG comes up with. He is not visionary, though.

Visionary directors:
George Lucas
Steven Spielberg
Guillermo Del Toro
Martin Scorsese
Peter Weir
Ridley Scott
Peter Jackson
Hell, even the John Carpenter of old was visionary.

But James Cameron is my favorite director. I don't think many are in his league when is comes to writing and directing characters and action and creating a film experience -- they're not even in the ballpark. It's like Don Juan versus any sixteen year old dope fumbling with some chick's bra strap.

i wish people would get off the soap box on t3.
it was not an embarrassment.

if you or anyone doesn't like the movie, fine.
but don't state as fact that a movie is no good when there are plenty of people
who like the movie and watch and will watch it again because they enjoy the movie.

Re: Terminator 4

The flaw here with the PG13 rating is that it assumues that they are going to get people to see the fourth film in a franchise that technically are to young to have seen the first three. There's a lot of important story in those three films. Die Hard was a bit different. Even though those films do have some loose connections, they were pretty much seperate entities. The Terminator series is pretty much one long story.

Of course, you're entitled to you opinion, but that's probably laying it on a bit thick. T3 is hardly universally despised. I think even Cameron was quoted as saying the liked with Mostow did with the film. If that is indeed true, I'd consider that a triumph rather than an embarrassment.
