What a life!
When you’ve made movies, written books and music and been a photographer for Vogue and Life, you don’t die, you’re immortal.

He will be missed. I actually grew up in Ft. Scott where a lot of The Learning Tree was filmed and where Parks spent some of his childhood. From what I've read, it wasn't the best childhood for him living there, but in grade school we would always talk about he and his works. Man, I wish Learning Tree was on dvd so I could watch it. Anyway, like I said, he will be missed.

He lived a very interesting life and he broke new ground as a director that hopefully many more will follow. May he R.I.P.

Amazing what you discover you didn't know. I have been aware of Parks' work as a photojournalist for decades, but never realized he directed movies as well, not to mention one as well known as Shaft.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.
