objection to John Stewart's humor at the Oscars

I was offended by the John Stewart's montage of westerns clips. The clips he chose do not represent homosexuality -- either consciously or unconsciously expressed -- in westerns. He takes the clips out of one context and puts them into another context to purposefully give them a different meaning. He put the clips into a political and sexual context that distorts and perverts the original intention of the film makers. I don't believe John Ford or Howard Hawks or Anthony Mann would share his sense of humor. It was in extremely bad taste and it gives the wrong impression to younger audiences who may not have seen these westerns yet.

What a sleazy jerk.

And that's why they call it a joke.

That montage was one of the funniest things I've ever seen at the Oscars. Although this thread may actually be even funnier.

I somehow doubt there's alot of people who thought it was a expose of homosexuality in the western genre. Most people got the joke.

I could be wrong, but i see this thread getting locked. I didn't watch the Oscars, and have not in years. The movies i like only win technical awards.

Actually, that clip from Red River is also in The Celluloid Closet. And for good reason. Otherwise, lighten up.

I doubt John Stewart was directly responsible for the montage. It didn't look like he did it on his mac while he was on the plane or anything.

Luckily, right at that moment, an unconscious Argentinean fell through my roof.

He was quickly joined by a dwarf dressed as a nun.
