Happy 100th Lou Costello

Today (3/6) is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lou Costello. Sometimes I wonder if today's audiences still appreciate (or even know) who Lou Costello or Stan Laurel or Bud Abbott even are, but for those who do, let's stop and reflect on all the laughter this little guy who lived a short life gave us.

I am 37. Born long after they died. And thanks to my Dad. I was introduced to them and other past comedy legends. And now its my turn. My 3 kids (ages 11, 8 & 3) love watching the Little Rascals and will soon get them into other comedians such as the 3 Stooges, Laurel & Hardy and even the Bowery Boys.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Got together with a group of fellow film fans last night to celebrate Lou's 100th. We screened - in 35mm - an A & C tv episode and the only new 35mm print in existence of Africa Screams. Lots of fun and a great tribute to Lou and Bud.

Movies the way they were meant to be seen: Big Screen Classics at the Lafayette Theatre

Gee Pete, thanks for letting us know...after the fact!

Any A&C in the Lafayette's schedule?

Not in the spring season, but I'm certain to have them in the fall with something good.

I watched Buck Privates with my 6 year old daughter the other day. She laughed just as hard as I did when I was a kid and just as hard as my mom did when she watched it as a kid.

Comedy of this quality does stand the test of time, as long as some one takes the effort to show it to the next generation.

Poor Lou, he was taken from us too early!

God bless him.

I remember watching a movie about him years ago. Towards the end of his life. The government really went after him hard for tax problems. In the movie they showed how distraught he was after all of the things he did to help the gov during the war. I am not sure how much is true. But, if it is. I really feel bad. So sad at the end of his life.

You are probably referring to the TV movie "Bud and Lou" starring Buddy Hackett as Lou and Harvey Korman as Bud.

Unfortunately, the IRS stuff was true.
