Re: Alien vs. Predator 2 in the works
I've been hearing that there will be no critics screenings for "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem".
You know what that means, it's essentially the kiss of death, it's always a desperate move on the part of studios to keep a lid on the bad reviews for the first few days of a film's release at least. Speaking of desperate, this is a studio that tacked the word "Requiem" onto the title for no other reason than to have a big red "R" in the film's logo to really hammer that R rating home after everyone complained about the previous film's PG-13 rating.
I honestly think the Brothers Strause are a lot better directors than Paul WS Anderson. Having only seen their videos, commercials and short films on their website they already blow him away. They actually have talent whereas Anderson lacks basic competence.
However, of the three big flaws in the previous film (bad director, PG-13 rating and bad writer) the one that has not been rectified in this film is arguably the worst. We're talking about a Shane Salerno script here, which means this production was essentially doomed from the start. I can't even imagine a great director making this movie work with a Salerno-penned script set in Colorado. Some of the more undeniably awful things that came to light when Moriarty wrote that infamous script review for Ain't It Cool News (Google "Final calculation, taking all the decent work into consideration, it’s catastrophic." if you wanna read the whole thing) were dropped in subsequent drafts (like the K-Mart fight) but the bulk of it has made it all the way through to the final film and that's not a horrifying example of the current state of Hollywood I don't know what is.
I'm sure this movie will be better than the last one but that's not saying much and I'm sure it will still be disappointing. The last one satisfied the basic curiosity of seeing an "AvP" movie while simultaneously leaving a bad taste in the mouths of moviegoers and I can't even see this movie living up to the disappointing box-office performance of its predecessor, even if it is slightly superior.
I'd actually like to see this movie spawn another sequel because it seems like they're learning from their mistakes, although they're definitely doing it the hard way. Perhaps next time they'll say "ok, last time we hired better directors and gave it an R rating, THIS TIME we promise we're not gonna hire the guy that wrote 'Armageddon' and we aren't gonna set it on present-day Earth."
Don't you ever, EVER compare me to "Family Guy," you hear me Kyle? Compare me to "Family Guy" again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand!
Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like 'Family Guy,' right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of 'Family Guy' Cartman!" I AM NOTHING LIKE FAMILY GUY! WHEN I MAKE JOKES THEY ARE INHERENT TO A STORY! DEEP SITUATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL JOKES BASED ON WHAT IS RELEVANT AND HAS A POINT, NOT JUST ONE RANDOM INTERCHANGEABLE JOKE AFTER ANOTHER!

Re: Alien vs. Predator 2 in the works
FWIW, I do believe that the first AvP did not have an advance screening either.

Re: Alien vs. Predator 2 in the works
I do think that it's sad that they had to put the letter R into the title, in fact the teaser I saw didn't even call the film AvP Requiem they called it AvP R and they paused before they said "R"...desperate.
Other than that it does look more sprawling than the last one, it has a hint of Resident Evil about it, too, which I don't mind because I liked those two movies.

Re: Alien vs. Predator 2 in the works
I have to admit, I'm pretty dissappointed in where this franchise went. I thought the ideal situation would be for this to happen way in the future; really leapfrog after the "Aliens" series; where shortly after Aliens3, Alien infestation into human worlds is significant, and well known. Predators show up and widespread war begins, and humans aren't sure of who they should be fighting..

Is anyone actually expecting this to be a 'good' movie? I'm just hoping that it's a cool movie with violent action scenes and that type of thing doesn't play well with critics anyway. Especially when they'll be in the midst of reviewing all of the December movies that are (self) important Oscar hopefuls.

Lately, not screening for critics has become the rule rather than the exception. Big FX event films are critic proof anyway, so what's the point in paying for special screenings? I don't think lack of critics' screenings are as big an indicator of quality, or lack thereof, as it used to be.

Re: Alien vs. Predator 2 in the works
I'm looking forward to this. Should be great brain candy.
I do wish they would do an Alien 5 to wrap things up better than they did for Ripley in Ressurection.
