Posted this in the Oscar nomination discussion before I saw this topic, anyway:

Am I the only one that was surprised that "Walk the Line" was nominated in the "Musical or Comedy" category? I haven't seen the film, but all I've heard about it made think that, sure there's singing in it due to the subject matter, but I certainly wouldn't have pegged it for that category - maybe my mind will change if I get a chance to see it. That just stood out to me in the nominations.

Bummed about no King Kong BP nomination, but glad to see Jackson's name in the Director category again, then again, I've never given too much credence to the GGs anyway (well, about as much as I give to the Oscars at least, ).

I also found the lack of Munich in BP interesting, particularly in light of Constant Gardener and History of Violence being recognized. I was also somewhat surprised by MatchPoint being up there, I've been interested in seeing it, but most of the talk I've heard is just how different it seems to be for Woody Allen.

I'm also glad to see Matt Dillon up there for Crash, well deserved, IMO.

D. A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
NEW LINE CINEMA; NEW LINE CINEMA

E. MATCH POINT
JADA PRODUCTIONS; DREAMWORKS PICTURES

I'll have seen all of these by Globe day. I love that History of Violence snuck in there, even if it was at the expense of King Kong.

B. FELICITY HUFFMAN TRANSAMERICA

C. GWYNETH PALTROW PROOF

Dang, I missed Proof and North Country. Now I'm kicking myself. I'll see Transamerica and Memoirs by GD. Maria, Gwyneth and Ziyi were surprises to me.

I'd better get out to the theater and see Hustle & Flow. I can't wait to see Brokeback Mountain. Good for Russell, getting some love for an excellent performance. I don't agree with David Strathairn's inclusion. I loved the movie and him in it, but he didn't really DO anything, did he?

Oh yuck. I had no intention of seeing The Family Stone. It looks totally nasty. Not as in a bad movie, but as in a bunch of characters I'll hate with a passion, who will be mean and nasty to each other for no readily apparant reason. Now I guess I have to. Bleaugh.
