IMO, it doesn't really matter.....

For me, it changes everything about the movie. There's a "Pandora's box" quality that's just gone when you remove Denham's wanting to find out more (about this legend of Kong) as the focal point of his motivation.

Was anyone else grossed out by the penis monsters in the spider pit?

I believe you're referring to what WETA dubbed "meat weasels".

Andy Serkis said viewing the final version of this scene made him reconsider if his young kids would get to see the film.

A Friday box office take just under $15 million. Sorry, this gorilla's legs will be short and hairy.

That's surprisingly low. I just don't get it.

I don't either. Could the reason be that the story is so well known, and it is essentially a tragedy, and people don't want that this time of year?

That sentence is so tortured, it's a tragedy in itself.:b

Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown. But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another.--Irving Townsend

I think the best Universal can hope for now is a "Batman Begins" type run, a movie that also started off a bit slower than expected but had good word of mouth and eventually made it over the $200 million barrier.

I honestly expected this to be a $300+ million blockbuster.

Universal is probably shaking in their boots....I don't think anyone saw this coming. Of course it's WAY WAY too early to say what the end result will be.

Maybe I'm unusual, but I had far more empathy for the people Kong killed on skull island and New York than I did for the big guy himself.

Sure, they never should have taken Kong off the island, but even the natives had to be happy he was gone. Just look at all the previous sacrifices in Kong's killing ground.

A wild animal is loose, causing many deaths, and I'm supposed to be upset when he gets offed?

I felt really bad for the soldiers in the biplanes.

To me Kong seemed very innocent, that's why I felt bad.

Of course I'm not condoning mass human death by a giant ape, but it sure is fun to watch. :b

Well after finally getting settled in back home after finals, I got to a PACKED 1:30 show today and my reaction was...whelmed. Not over or under, just whelmed.

The movie really felt like the first draft of something great, and if Jackson an co. had spent as much time finessing and paring down the script as he obviously did with the pre-vis software, it could have been truly great. The movie is an incredibly watchable indulgence, there's no getting away from that: 3 hours of pure unfiltered imagination. It just could have used a filter.

I have to run now, but I'll post more when I return.

I, on the other hand, imagined all the devastated family members of each person Kong killed.

No contest, the monkey needed to die.

I did like the movie overall, but my sympathy for Kong ended the instant he started killing people, especially the innocents.
