Just curious, am I the only one who deeply despised the
And another thing is that I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only people (or in a major minority here) that actually enjoys the length spent prior to reaching Skull Island. I really liked that in the original, too, as I feel it always has added an amazing amount of tension and buildup to not knowing what we are going to see in the next acts of the film.

I never claimed Stockholm Syndrome. She's not been brainwashed, she just views the events from a different paradigm than you. She was probably devastated that he killed the men, but felt their behavior caused it. I think there are two scenes that get their relationship to where it needs to be. The aftermath of the V-Rex fight (where he picks her up) and the subsequent sunset scene (one of the finest scenes I've ever witnessed, I might add). Another scene wouldn't have made that relationship more real. It was instinctual trust. I am certain add does remember the pit with the previous women. She lands in it. I am sure she remembers him pushing her down (painfully) in the vaudeville act. I accepted her leaving Kong with Jack in the night. Even with her love for him, she couldn't stay with him. She ran with Jack away from him. But the sailors got violent, and violence was returned. We can hem and haw, but Jackson framed the action to put as much "deserve" into the sailors as he could. Ann did doubt. But clearly, running away from Kong on her own wasn't that safe. The film established that. It established the crew as being violently aggressive towards Kong. I don't see why her reaction is at all out of sorts. More likely, wouldn't the crew want to kill Kong for killing their mates? Their acceptance is far more unbelieveable than Ann's.
And typical silverback action doesn't cover Kong. I know a major gripe of yours is the realistic appearance, but he's not a silverback, any more than Superman is a human. The animal behavior was a reference to allow the audience to believe the model...it was a conscious choice by the actor playing Kong. But Kong is based on the actor, not real animals. He's more than merely a 25 foot monkey. He's not so easily definable.

Mike, Nope. I loved that. Probably thanks to the way they filmmakers covered it, the way Kong physically did it (like a child). Besides, my mom used to squeeze my hand three times as a way of saying "I-LOVE-YOU", so I am biased. I did love that moment myself. I love everything from the moment Ann and Kong come together on the street in NYC.

And she did that even though she could say the words. It was another way to communicate. Ann and Kong did not have words so the chest thump was another way to communicate. It was beautiful.

Another cat? Perhaps. For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown. But a family cat is not replaceable like a wornout coat or a set of tires. Each new kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated. I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaced one another.--Irving Townsend

Guys
Can we please dispense with SPOILER BLOCKS?
They aren't necessary in an official discussion thread.
Thanks
PS..just saw it and am still mulling it over in my head. I liked it very much but I agree with a few of Paul's complaints.
I'll post more thought later.

The first day numbers are out for KING KONG and they aren't very good.
Only $9.7 million on Wed, including Tues. night previews. Very surprising. I hope wom spreads and it picks up over the weekend.
At this point, it's doubtful it will reach $200 million.

Let's not jump the gun. Granted, I'm no fan of the film but it will easily surpass 200 million, I think.

Oh yeah, it should clean up over the weekend, but I bet the running time is making more than a few think twice about just stepping out to go see it. Some of us have to plan an entire day around a movie with such a running time (getting someone to watch our daughter, which includes time getting there and time afterward). While there is no need to call it a bomb, as a certain other site has, I bet some Universal execs are still a little peeved at the whole 'Pokemon Beat Kong' online headlines.

And you believe, at heart, everyone's a killer...

Tino, I think $200M is still likely. It has THREE weekends, two of them 3 day weekends, before the world starts up again after the holidays. Batman Begins made it to $200M with a $50M opening weekend during the summer with WOTW the next weekend. I think King Kong has plenty of life in it. The question is will it die at $200M, or will it hit it with same real life left in it. And we won't know that until after Christmas.

It does have plenty of life but the predicts were just way too high. Still, I think are underestimating the competition just a tad for the next two weeks. Nothing that will be Kong but films that will take away from it. Narnia hasn't even ran it's course yet.
Still, I'm not sure it's gonna get Episode III numbers.
