As much as I like Steve Carell, this seems like a bad idea. Haven't they realized by now that they should NOT make sequels (or prequels) to Jim Carrey movies WITHOUT Jim Carrey?

Universal has also warmed to the idea of making a line of future "Almighty" pictures

And Hollywood wonders why the box office is in a slump.

Well - There it is.

Oh god..now Steve Carrell is going to be in EVERYTHING, just like Will Ferrell.

Bruce Almighty was okay, but certainly nowhere near as good as the hype or the opening weekend(80+ million?!).

the sequel will take the news anchor character Carell played in that film and put him on an Almighty-inspired quest to build an ark in preparation for a great flood.

This actually strikes me as potentially funny movie having seen Carell get me rolling in the aisle laughing from 40 year.

no fears alone at night she's sailing through the crowd
in her ears the phones are tight and the music's playing loud

The only thing wrong with sequels is when they're bad.

Give it a chance. If they suck, they suck and Universal will be further along the road of them going bankrupt.

This is like when they did a sequel to THE MASK. Big big mistake. it's just not the same without Jim Carrey in it.

Shows I Want on DVD:
- Who's the Boss? Seasons 2-8
- Law & Order: SVU Seasons 8 & 9
- The Nanny Seasons 3-6
- Taxi Seasons 4-5

I'm more than willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Carrel is certainly a currently untapped well of talent and I'd like to see what they can make of him. I think it'd be a mistake to have a sequel with Bruce again or in the same vein as it'd be hard to make it fresh. But somehow the idea of Carrel trying to convince people to get on a big boat strikes me as funny.

As said above, sequels are only a bad idea if they're badly done. The Mask 2 wasn't bad because it didn't have Jim Carrey in it. It was bad because it was Baby Geniuses 3.

Except the slump seems to be the result of a lack of sequels.

I think it's a funny idea for a movie, (A Modern Day Noah's arc) but making it center around a secondary character who has baggage, but baggage that doesn't really help with anything, makes one wonder why you'd make it a sequel. And something about an entire world flooding sort of negates the optimistic view of the first movie.

After seeing Steve Carell in 40 Year Old Virgin, I would be willing to give this a try.
