Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
I agree with Paul's every sentiment. I'm less worried about Nolan than Raimi, since the tone is harder to spin out of control as Spidey 2's delicate balancing act.
I also understand that Nolan cited Heat, which is a 3 hour crime drama, as an inspiration. That said, Heat had lots of characters and lots of plot, and was tightly directed and paced. I think Nolan is skilled, and if Batman approaches a longer runtime for characters and narrative (instead of an extra setpiece or two), I'm OK with that. We'll see. The longer time doesn't mean anything by itself. Just something to consider. I might be calling it a brilliant decision in a few months.
Also agree on the Joker.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
If Nolan's final and definitive version turns out to be longer than BB, will Warner support it? I hope we don't end up with the dreaded theratrical cut and subsequent DVD versions.
Being a summer release is key to the studios box office takings and the more runs into the timeslot is more cash.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
I don't think Warner will interfere with Nolan in regards to runtime. They know he got it totally right with BB and they SHOULD be smart enough to realize that it wouldn't be a wise move on their part to stick their noses in this time around. Then again, this is Hollywood we're talking about and with some of the decisions that are made these days nothing would surprise me.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
Unless the movies are really good, the critics will ravage them, especially after the disappointing movies from last summer like Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3 - both of which were way too long and weren't such great films either. Still, if the movies (Dark Knight, Indy, etc.) are truly good films, the length won't matter.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
There's a Youtube video floating around mocking Heath Ledger's death by calling it an 'alternate ending' to this film.
In it, Batman (wearing a Batman Returns costume) finds the Joker (in accurate make up designed to look like Ledger's face in the film) dead in a bedroom with pills all around him. Gordon busts in and a lot of swearing ensues. Batman starts crying, takes off, Gordon calls Joker's mother and refers to him as an 'angel'. At the end, Batman leaves a message for Alfred to pick him up since he's having a bad night.
I've described it so hopefully no one here has to actually look at it . I won't link it (saw it in the Dark Knight thread of DVDTalk) because it's simply disgusting that anyone would poke fun at a man's death like that, especially considering how sensitive people seem to be about certain spoiled scenes involving Ledger in the film. It's not funny at all.

Re: Batman Begins' sequel: The Dark Knight (Merged)
Looks like the final trailer has been seen. Can't wait until the rest of us get to see it!
The Dark Knight Trailer Premieres - Superhero Hype!
I'll be all around in the dark, I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look, wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.

I'd like it better without Batman actually in the image. I think I'd buy it then.
With Batman, I still like it OK.
