We saw the film last night and thought it was quite good. It was quite funny without dipping into corniness (at least not much or overt attempts at sentimentality. The natural charm of the two leads does help quite a bit.
Christopher Plummer turns in a marvelous performance as well.

This movie will play very well with the 35+ crowd or anyone who prefers story over gross out humor. I'm not sure how it will go over with the 20 somethings since it pokes fun of the shallowness of some of that age bracket.

Well, being in the over-35 crowd, the movie did not play well with me, nor with my wife (who is in the under-35 crowd). I thought the script was really weak. Diane Lane certainly made the most of what she had in the film, but it was just a through-the-motions picture. Weak set-up, too. Every character had their bit to play in the story, and you knew exactly who each one was and what they were going to do before they did it. Besides the fact that these two people were single and looking for someone, we didn't know a whole lot about them. I thought it was one of the weakest scripts I've seen made into a movie in a long time. Had it's moments - most of them Lane's - but I can't recommend it.

Match.com must love the publicity it'll garner from this movie.

I thought it was good, though a little cloying because Sarah and Jake just have really good chemistry, and the obstacles to them getting together seemed a little contrived, but not enough to not recommend it.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

Well. $13,100,000 from 2,505 theaters. Not bad but not great. It landed at No.5.

I guess Lane will be in obscurity for a while longer.

Most likely they paid for it...and it seems to be perfectmatch.com, not match.com.

She's a 40 year old actress in Hollywood. As Goldie Hawn said in "First Wives Club" women have three stages in Hollywood: babe, district attorney and Driving Miss Daisy. Even Julia Roberts is fleeing to Broadway. Her cinematic future will now comprise roles as the angst ridden mother of teenage girls. And then she'll be their grandmother.

As a Diane Lane Superfan here, she will not reach obscurity! Diane Lane has that Oscar nomination (which I felt she should have won for) under her belt, and that accounts for a lot!

I'd bet that she gets more Oscar nods too, although there will not be one for Must Love Dogs.

How many people even know she was Oscar nominated though?

Probably anybody that reads anything that mention her. Her name is now usually prefaced by "Oscar Nominated Actress".

Tell that to Louise Fletcher, an Oscar winner.
