Chris Tucker won't do Rush Hour 3
And turned down a cool $20M.
Tucker turns it down
Not even a month ago
Sheesh. I love this series, and unlike many here I find the guy hilarious.
Quote:
*Bad guy fines Tucker's police badge*
"Oh, so you're a cop?"
"Naww, I'm a security guard... I work at the mall."
*baddie makes a cut-throat motion with his hand*
"Hey! He meant cut me loose!!"
|
I heard he recently got deeply religious so that may have attributed to his decision in some way, but it's still sad to see him sink the series. Hopefully someone can convince otherwise (or maybe he'll go in debt).

I think Tucker's great as well. He's been spending a lot of his time the past few years aiding in the fight against AIDS in Africa, and said previously that Rush Hour 3 was going to be his last film ever, IIRC. It's too bad if it's true, but at least we have Rush Hour 1 and 2.
The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Hey, if I ever land a few million for a movie, I'm frickin' retiring shortly there afterwards. Or at least, I'll only be doing dream projects from there-on out. Making it big means not having to grind.
This dream, and a buck twenty five, will earn me coffee, so there ya go.
Too bad about Tucker though, he's pretty damn funny. Fifth Element was a great flick in large part due to him.

Despite reports last month of Chris Tucker walking away from his starring role in 'Rush Hour 3,' the comedian told MTV that the Brett-Ratner-directed sequel is “in the works.”
The 32-year-old actor gave the comment during Saturday’s MTV Movie Awards taping in Los Angeles.

It's great that he wants to help AIDS-afflicted people in Africa ... but why not take the 3 or 4 months to do this movie, get that $20 million, and then donate it to research/AIDS education/medical funding?
Wouldn't that help those people more? I suppose maybe he figured that out and that may be why he's accepting the Rush Hour 3 job.

I think it's funny that Tucker has only done Rush Hour movies over the last few years. Does he not enjoy making movies?
I also think it's funny that he's gone Michael Jackson (as I like to call it), just like Eddie Murphy did years ago. Maybe it's one of those Jump the Shark things, only with people.
Still, I've got a lot of respect for the guy for his efforts in Africa.

I'm just trying to figure out how he was getting a $20 million paycheck from doing those movies. He ain't Denzel.

In the case of Rush Hour he is. The first one was a surprisingly big success and the second film was a monster. Both Rush Hour films have outgrossed every film in Denzel Washington's career.

Well, it is good for him then. Using his time away from doing movies and just taking the time to help out in Africa is pretty awesome. Knowing me, I would take the $20 million and just become the lasiest person on Earth.

AFAIK, he's never been a huge box-office draw.
