After seeing the movie, I'd completely agree (especially for Planet Terror) but that's what I read. Although what I read could be way off.

Yeah, that must have been some bad reporting. We did get to see some of what we wanted from Rose just before the Planet Terror missing reel, but I'm gonna bust some heads if other people are seeing what I wanted to see from Vanessa Ferlito!

Are there end credits after PLANET TERROR? I'm just curious in case I need to run to the bathroom and I don't want to miss the trailers or the start of Tarantino's flick.

Re: Grindhouse - New Tarantino/Rodriguez film announced..
No, all of the end credits are at the very end. Someone linked to the Thanksgiving trailer earlier, as I mentioned. Those are all short enough to catch on-line (if indeed the other ones are also on-line, I'm not sure), so that's probably the best time for a quick trip to the can. The "Machete" trailer plays before Planet Terror, and then the other three trailers play before Death Proof. There's also a quick ad for a local Mexican restaurant, which gets a brief reference in Death Proof.
I'm sure there are references to previous Rodriguez movies in there as well, though I'm not very familiar with those films. I did notice a couple of little Pulp Fiction references--Red Apple cigarettes in Planet Terror, Big Kahuna Burger in Death Proof.
Oh, and Tarantino's attempts to act...good lord. Somebody keep that guy on the right side of the camera. I actually think he was fine in Reservoir Dogs, where he didn't really have to act (more like telling a story or long joke that he'd written), and even in Pulp Fiction, where he did have to act a bit (getting pissed off), albeit not too much. But he tries to do some accent/personality things in Grindhouse, and wow is he terrible. Mercifully, he's not on-screen for all that long.

Re: Grindhouse - New Tarantino/Rodriguez film announced..
Thanks Haggai.
I guess I could pretend this is a real Grindhouse theater and just go in the seat in front of me.
In all seriousness, I had planned for two months to see this film today since I knew I'd be off work. Last Tuesday I came down with the flu so I had to cancel my screening.

Re: Grindhouse - New Tarantino/Rodriguez film announced..
I planned on this for months, and despite having the flu, I went and saw the first matinée at the Cinerama. I don't regret seeing at a nice theater because I was worried I would have a sore ass sitting through a three hour film.
I needn't have worried. Maybe the best three hours I've spent at the movies in years. I like how both films had shout outs to each other (but I won't spoil that for people).
I expect I will see this at least two more times with friends and I will, if I have to, double dip for the first release on DVD and the inevitable super deluxe edition.

Tarantino and M. Night Shyamalan should go out and have a beer.

The lap dance in Death Proof, or at least pieces were definitely filmed. Just play the trailer that is here on HTF and you will see this clip:
It's a shame that scene didn't make the final cut though.
Overall it was a fun experience. Saw it with a pretty good audience, although they did quiet down during Tarantino's. I think it probably would have been best if Death Proof was played first, and then Planet Terror as that one never really lets up. DP drags for two very long sections if you aren't into Tarantino style dialogue. My entire row left during the round the table scene.

Re: Grindhouse - New Tarantino/Rodriguez film announced..
Jason,
Having Death Proof play first wouldn't play as well once people see that ending. QT's ending, or should I say the last 25 minutes, trumps the entirety of Rodriquez's Planet Terror. More specifically, the last 2 minutes are just pure gold. It's one of the best endings I've ever witnessed in a theatre.
I enjoyed the entire "Grindhouse" experience. Everything was fun. Planet Terror was a riot but I personally feel that Death Proof is an instant classic...it is, for me, in QT's top three, in terms of his best films.
I can't wait to see the longer version on DVD...for both films....

Re: Grindhouse - New Tarantino/Rodriguez film announced..
A hell of a lot of fun. Saw this last night, and it was a riot. I've always thought that one of the best things about seeing a Tarantino or a Rodriquez movie is that it's a celebration of so many movies and so many kinds of movies.
I agreed with most of the critics that Death Proof was the better installment, but that shouldn't take anything away from Planet Terror, which was as spooky, funny and full of action as movies get.
Grindhouse is the most fun movie lovers will have at the theater this year.

Well, I am a movie lover, and I enjoyed other films more
But there is a lot of value in Grindhouse for your movie-going dollar. I agree with the critics that DP is more of a grindhouse flick, while PT is more of a | |
