The actors just weren't up to the task, their take on George and Kathy Lutz felt fake to me, too Hollywood if you will, where as James Brolin and Margot Kidder felt genuin.

Mmm, I thought the actress playing Kathy was a little dull in the early scenes, but in some of the later, more emotional scenes (where she was yelling at the daughter, for example) I thought she did quite well. I didn't think she was awful. Guy playing George was no good, though.

I agree that Margot Kidder really did give a fine performance in the original film. James Brolin I thought was fair, but certainly better than this new guy.

The music, oh lord, the music, man did they screw up big here!

Funny you should mention that, John, because I was just thinking today... I don't REMEMBER a score in this film. Not one note of it... I'm serious. Perhaps that says something???

If that score is the sound of kids singing something like "la, la...". That still scares the crap out of me. I saw the trailer in the theaters. And it freaked me out.

Wanna really get freaked out? According to IMDB, some shots of the house in the trailer were of the real house. I do think the case is almost certainly a hoax, but the thought of looking at the real house while listening to that music... eeeeeeshhhhh!!! Creeps me out.

I agree. I thought it was disgusting to distort the facts of the DeFeo case that started all of this. Not only was the DeFeo girl not named Jodie, she was also not shot in a closet. All of the victims in the real case were found shot in their beds.

This was a very odd divergence from the real story since part of the spookiness of the DeFeo murders comes from the way they were killed. They were all shot while sleeping, but apparently the gunshot blasts didn't waken any of them. The movie changes that and removes a potentially eerie moment.

Oh, what a terrible film!
