Our Gang

Sorry if this has been asked before but:

1) Who owns the rights to the Our Gang comedies? I mean all 221 of them between 1922 and 1944 (Pathe silents and MGM talkies).

2) Is there any plans to release all of the films (those known to still exist) in a high-quality, B&W, uncut/uncensored DVD series? I've seen many of the Cabin Fever VHS volumes. Are all of these available repackaged onto DVD? Is there anything else in the works?

Thanks,
Jeff

I thought that I had read that Bill Cosby owns the rights to those. However, that could just be urban legend. I have all of the cabin fever vhs tapes and would love to see them on DVD.

This thread should be in the software section. If you search in there you'll find several older threads discussing these films.

As of right now, I believe that Hallmark owns the US rights to these films as well as Laurel & Hardy & other Hal Roach material. Unfortunately, Hallmark has shown very little interest in releasing any of these on DVD, and you'll be able to find more details related to this in those other threads.

It's very frustrating, because I would snap them all up in a heartbeat. I finally gave up about 2 years ago and purchased all of the Cabin Fever VHS tapes on Ebay for about $70.

Cool, I'll check out the "software" section of this forum and do a search, but the term "software" confuses me...my opinion is that there are way too many sub-forums at this site.

Thanks for the info, guys!

I have the complete Cabin Fever VHS set. You can forget about Hallmark doing anything with these wonderful films.

And I thought the Bill Cosby ownership thing turned out to be one of those false rumors?

The Movies area is for discussing the films themselves. Post about DVD-related issues in the Software area. But before starting a thread, do the search for previous threads. Meanwhile, this one is closed.
