I know Patrick. The AJC didn't even give total crap like Date Movie an F.

I was floored that Clerks II was their top-rated movie this week.

Judging by the reviews I've read...

Spoiler:
it sounds as though this film is the ultimate "Mary Sue". I had thought Paul Giamatti's Cleveland Heep was the man destined to change the world through his writing, but now it turns out it's Shyamalan's own character? For fuck's sake...

I think this will probably flop, although since Night's budgets are generally fairly small, it's certainly not going to define his career.

Sounds like M. Night is angling to get on to direct the sixth Harry Potter film ... and he probably will get it, and that's about as much a sure bet in Hollywood as there is these days. So seems like he's going to come out back on his feet after this whole thing is over.

That's the way I remember the excerpt from the book. They said, "We don't get it," gave him carte blanche anyway, he went home and wept (literally), and then ran to WB.

Why would he "probably get HP"? I don't think he has that kind of clout with WB yet. Not for their major franchise.

Re: M. Nights next film "Lady in the Water'

Quick review:

Ever watch a writer/director's career dissolve before your very eyes? That's how I felt after being subjected to almost 2 hours of awful writing and filmmaking. Shyamalan gets a little too cute in trying to undercut the generic, formulaic plot structure by practically breaking the 4th wall repeatedly until the film just becomes a big joke, and you feel yourself becoming totally disengaged with what's happening on the screen.

Oh, Shyamalan really needs to stop acting in his films, he habitually stops the film cold in its tracks when his mug is on the screen. It was painful to watch him "act" on-screen with Giamatti.

I will generously give the film 1 star, or a grade of D, but I'm pretty much done with him unless his next film gets raving reviews. Rated P-U.

Re: M. Nights next film "Lady in the Water'

I've loved M. Night Shyamalan's movies... until now. It's Shyamalan so I expected pretention (and I'm not really bothered by it like some people) but this was way overboard even for him. When the credits rolled, I was expecting him to appear on screen asking for a Noble Prize.

The critic character just comes off as sour grapes and whining on his part. You're a movie maker, there's always gonna be critics. Live with it, don't cry about it in your movies.

The movie's scares consisted of Lewton buses every ten minutes or so and occasional blurs of a wolf thing. Sometimes less is more but he's gotten 'less' to the point of nothing.

This movie will do OK this weekend and word of mouth will kill it.

Those negatives aside, there are some great performances in the movie but there isn't much more than that. And I'm sure Shyamalan has some more great movies in him but this just isn't one of them.

I liked parts of this movie, but the negative so vastly outweighed anything positive that it was just a joke. It honestly felt like a crappy B movie, which I'm pretty sure is not how he wanted to have it come off as - I had low expectations, and they weren't met.

And to make matter worse, my beautiful new "The Fountain" trailer was all messed up when they ran it, like it didn't "click" into the correct projector setting.
