Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
Aren't they allowed one "fuck"? I imagine they could keep that in reserve for the catchphrase.
But I'm still surprised they can cut it- the other movies had enough language sprinkled throughout that that cutting them just for violence wouldn't have got them to a PG-13 and I would have expected this one to be the same.

I'd imagine the MPAA draws some bizarre, nonsensical distinction between the use of a simple "F" and a variant such as "M-F".

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
I have a feeling it won't be true. I pray to God it's not. Die Hard movies are R. I don't want another AVP. The MPAA wouldn't pass MF ever. If it was cut, the line would be cut off.
I was incredibly hyped to see this. This just killed my excitement stone dead.
No guts, no glory money.

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
I sorta alluded to it before but if they want a PG-13 rating on this movie, I think that could be a sign that it's really bad (perfect example: Alien Vs. Predator) and Fox wants to make as much as they can as quickly as they can before Transformers and word of mouth level it. I hope I'm completely wrong about that and even if it's terrible, I'd rather see it R rated.

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
If it is cut, then the trailer is pretty misleading since he says "Yippie kay yay mother."
Hopefully it is all intact. Wouldn't be diehard without it.

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
I'm not surprised. A PG-13 is a far safer rating, especially considering that there hasn't been a 'Die Hard' movie since the summer of '95. With a 12-year gap between the movies, Fox wanted to make sure that teenagers would be able to see it. Of course, we will all be treated to the "Unrated Director's Cut" on DVD this fall.

Well if they can't use the line the way it was intended, then I hope they cut it altogether. I don't really care to see a "Yippie Kay Yay Mother--" punctuated by an explosion or something.

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
A PG-13 rated Die Hard film? My ass.
They filmed it in Super 35 and I said fine, i'll let that slide and now this...get out of my face with this.
I don't want to hear any mumbo jumbo about "putting more teen asses in the seats", bullshit, I want an R rated DH film and I won't settle for anything less. This crap about an unrated DVD for us later is an insult, so we won't get to see an R rated cut on the big screen but they'll throw us a bone later with a DVD of it?

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
I never thought the third one looked like a Die Hard film either. Die Hard films were always about Willis stuck in one location that is being held hostage. That is a Die Hard film. Its what set them apart from other action films. Die Hard 3 and from the looks of 4, could just be any Bruce Willis action movie.
And the rating for Die Hard 4? If all it takes is a few cuts to get a PG-13, then it probably wasn't going to be a "hard R" anyway, which sucks. And I kind of suspected this because of the casting. You have the daughter, that annoying kid from the Apple commercials, etc. Die Hard films were always very bloody, and loaded with adult language. Die Hard 2 had gallons of blood.

Haha... didn't they do that in AVP? "You are one ugly mother ..." *BIG EXPLOSION*!

Re: Die Hard 4 in the works.
With AVP the studio (ironically Fox) was concerned that there might not be any interest in either the Alien or Predator properties. The movie was a big hit (pulling in more than $171 million worldwide) as well as a very popular choice on DVD, hence why the sequel will be a "hard" R because the studio has confidence in the series. Plus, the very loud outcry for an R rated movie also swayed the studio because they saw how viable the property still was.
If Die Hard 4 becomes a big hit both here and abroad, the studio may go forward with another one (which they are considering) and it will very likely carry an R rating. The studio is more or less putting their toe into the water to see if the interest is there for the series to continue.
Bottom line, the PG-13 rating is a business decision.
