Hey, guys, i'm very much alive, I lost my internet for a couple of weeks but i'm back now.
Saw this film twice since we last met...loved it! It without a doubt had the DH flavour and McClane can still crack wise with the best of them. While he was a little more grizzled and worn down here he still rose to the occasion to take care of a situation when no one else can handle.
The only complaint I had with the film was the music by Marco Baltrami, he's my all time least favorite film composer, all of his scores sound cheap and prepackaged to me, they don't have that commanding presance that Michael Kamen's music had and it showed. To me the musoc is every bit a part of these films as much as the actors are, he made a few attempts at recreating certain passages of the DH music but the difference between his work and Kamen's was distractingly noticable to me.
I was also sort of hoping that Holly would show up and immediately get shot or hit by a carreening bus or something, that bitch.
Okay, onto the issue that we've discussed ad nausium these past few weeks, the rating, it was fine IMO, the body count was high sans blood and John managed to get a few "shits" in there, it actually made this McClane seem more mature than before which was a plus if you ask me.
Another plus was the comraderie between McClane and Justin Long's Matt, the two really worked well together and Justin continues to prove that when you want an undeniably likable kid in your film, he's your guy.
But, the real reason we see these films is the action and it sizzled at time, the much talked about flipping car was still suspensful because we got to actually see it happen in context and the ending that has
Tim Olaphant was okay as the heavy, if anything he was funny to listen to and his plot, his 'fire sale" was just diabolical enough to carry us through another adventure.
Okay, I admit it, i'm a complete ass lol, I slammed this film and bashed it because of the rating and it became very clear to me about 5 minutes into it that I just didn't care, this was a DH movie and my temporary insanity melted away and I was returned to the proper state of mind to get maximum enjoyment.
Fave line from the entire film...
"Mya? You mean that skinny asian chick who liked to kick people? Last time I saw her she was at the bottom of an elevator shaft with an SUV up her ass."
Wouldn't be a DH film without an elevator shaft now would it?
