Surprises for me:

No Clint Eastwood for Best Actor for M$B.
David Carradine and Uma Thurman for Kill Bill Volume 2.
Jamie Foxx for Collateral. He got 2 other nominations (Best Actor in a Made for TV Movie - Redemption and ,of course, Best Actor in a Comedy for Ray).
No The Incredibles score nomination.
Meryl Streep for Manchurian Candidate.
Renee Zellweger for Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason.
Nicole Kidman for Birth.
Scarlett Johannson for The Love Song for Bobby Long.

Hopes that were dashed:
Michael Mann and Tom Cruise for Collateral.

I liked how Brendan Fraser actually wanted to be there. Mira looked lovely, but tired, and Drea looked like she didn't want to be there at all. I know it was 5:30 a.m., but still.

Well, considering he hasn't had much going for him since The Quiet American, I'm sure he was glad to get some exposure.

The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Ew, the song from Polar Express. Ew.

Looks like there's no hope for my dark horse awards choice, Bryce Dallas Howard in The Village. Too bad, since she MADE that movie.

No comment on The Village.

What in the world is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" doing in the Comedy/Musical category?

Not sure how Eternal Sunshine counts as a comedy, aside from the blurb on the DVD cover ("a sexy, romantic comedy!" or something like that). Then again, I don't know how exactly I'd classify it. Is Sideways any more of a comedy than Eternal Sunshine?

The biggest surprise for me - well, not really a surprise, I suppose, but I'm trying not to be cynical...no nod for Jim Caviezel for what I feel is far and away the performance of the year.

Ditto what I said in another thread.

Don't really understand the love for Renee Zellweger. Her performance in "BJ Edge of Reason" was nothing special in a mediocre film.

Looking forward to more of those films coming to town.

I was really surprised at this too. I thought Maia Morgenstern who played Mary, the mother of Jesus, might be nominated as well for her performance.

As I look over those nominations, I'm guessing the Globes doesn't give an award for cinematogrophy.

Hannity & Colms had a guy on last night that was making the case as to why "The Passion" received no nominations. He said something like 60% of film critics panned "The Passion." If true, that is surprising. I guess I only paid attention to what Ebert and Roeper had to say about it in giving it two thumbs up.

Peace,

DM
