A friend and I waited 4 hours to see "Return of the Jedi" on opening day at Loew's Astor Plaza in New York City. We were 19 at the time, and the people directly in front of us in the line were amazing! They were a few years older than us (and I swear one was a college professor), and they seemed to have seen every movie ever made! The time on line passed quickly. Too bad none of us exchanged phone numbers...
The highlight of the wait was being approached by "actor" James Karen (the guy who played Craig T. Nelson's boss in "Poltergeist,"...but I couldn't put a finger on who he was at the time) who asked why we were all sitting on the ground. When we all replied "Star Wars!" in unison, he waved us off, kiddingly, and said "Ahhh, that old stuff?" and walked away. That's when the professor-looking guy in our little group sarcastically said "I just love meeting 'celebrities.'" That's when I realized the "celeb" we had just met was the guy who was in all the PathMark commercials at the time.

I camped out for Phantom Menace tickets for about 12 hours. It was actually a great experience. The people I sat with were really kewl, and the local TV stations came by and brought free pizza, etc. The movie was disappointing for me, but I really had a fun time waiting for it.

Same exact experience for me before Ep1 premiere. It was a blast. TV/radio stations brought pizza, T-shirts, etc. Lots of fun!

Matrix Reloaded. I had to wait through two showtimes, because they were both sold out. Then the movie sucked and I was mad. I had to wait outside the Denver Pavilions for about an hour and a half when I got to see a private screening of SW: Phantom Menace, TWO WEEKS before it opened. People were sellign their tickets online for $200 a pop! But I held on to mine. The experience was great,I guess there were some pretty important people at the screening, since there were sections "reserved" and blocked off, but the people were way cool, and we got free food/snacks/pop, free lightsabers, and kids and adults alike were soooo pshyced to see it. That one i didn't mind waiting for. It was fun.

I'll wait about as long as it takes for the cashier to take my money and give me a ticket.
My wife sent me once to buy tickets to a concert. I went to the arena (Breslin Center MSU E. Lansing) I walked up to the door while a couple was walking out, they held the door for me and I walked up to the ticket window bought my tickets. I turned around and noticed this really long line a few feet over going way outside. I then and there realized I just jumped way ahead of hundreds of people. The door that was held open for me was locked (I had no idea). It was a good thing for my wife, because I would not have waited in line for anything. And I got real good seats. opps!

I waited about 4 hours for each of the LOTR films, midnight shows, and that is with pre-sold tickets. Just wanted perfect seats. Crowds were always fantastic these nights, cause everyone there was a die hard.

I was 8 and it was for Star Wars. I don't remember how long. But, the line went through the parking lot.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

5 hours for AOTC at midnight. Huge line with music, people having lightsaber battles, giveaways, etc. Not quite the same line as the one shown in the Triumph video but close. It was a lot of fun.
 You want to upgrade again?!!

I can't ever remember waiting too long for a movie in my life. Maybe an hour or two at some point, but even at that I can't remember.
The person waiting 5 months to see the STAR WARS film is either a complete nut or else just hungry for attention and notoriety. There is no "need" to wait that long to be first in to see the film . If his goal was to be the first inside, or one of the first, all he would need to do is go home and visit the theatre every day to see if any line started to form yet. If it hasn't, he can go back to his home. Apparently the guy has endless time on his hands, so if he wants to be there early, he'd just have to check with the theatre regularly to get an idea of the traffic, and start waiting only at the point it looks like a line's forming. Among rabid SW fans, this may only be a week ahead of time. Maybe a little longer - but not 5 months.

About 30 minutes for Close Encounters of The Third Kind.
Wife and friends stood in line because of the major hype. I was major disappointed because the film major sucked.
