Question: Did anything ultimately happen to the real estate agent? He was in the house.
Good creep factor, but no story or characters. I've recently seen The Eye and Ringu and enjoyed them much more.
Was the original a TV movie, because this one played like a TV movie - with the constant fadeouts for commericals.
There are too many story points that I didn't understand to bother asking about. I did enjoy seeing Tokyo though - still smoggy!

Are you talking about the Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge or the American remake The Grudge, because this is a discussion thread for the latter.

The American remake. It was made by the same people I understand who made the Japanese version, and I understood, perhaps incorrectly, that the original version was made for TV. The Buffy version certainly felt like a TV movie with its pacing and constant cuts to black for commercials.

Yeah.. What was up with that?
I had a jump in my seat moment, with that reflection on the bus window..
The rest was just dread..
Was ok.. Ring kinda stole the thunder fom this movie, though.. Built up my immunity..

Just saw a trailer for The Grudge on TV. It said it was the most terrifying movie of 2004. I had to chuckle at that.

I'd have to go with Van Helsing there. Terrifyingly bad.

You should call him up and make those gurgling/clicking sounds made by the ghost.

The Japanese must have some phobia about pale girls with long stringy hair. It seems to be a theme.
I thought the film was pretty effective, though I would have enjoyed it more without the gaggle of giggling girls sitting in the back of the theater.
I think one of my most creepy moments was when she was following the cat up the stairs and the pair of arms shot out from around the bend in the stairs and grabbed the cat. The vision in the bus window was also freaky.
I did have to laugh when the sister ran back into her apartment, jumped into bed, and pulled the covers up around her head. It led into a decent scare scene, but it seemed pretty ridiculous.

Yup..
Those were my cry-out-loud moments, too..

Just got done watching the Japanese version, Ju-On.
Creepy in parts, but like people have stated, no story or character development whatsoever. I was not impressed. I'm glad I didn't go see the Grudge in the theaters and will wait for it to come out on DVD.

Which one? Ju-On or Ju-On: The Grudge?
I liked them both, but loved Ju-On. Your right about character development, but that didn't bother me. Atmosphere really sold the movie.

This is regarding the Japanese version Ju-On: The Grudge, I must ask a question that was broached earlier but never answered, what the hell was it about?
Seriously, I understand that it is an ever repeating curse instigated by the original horrible violence but....well, why the hell did the dead Mother feel the need to kill innocent people? She was an innocent victim herself wasn't she, so why would she hunt down other innocent people? Was it actually the murderous Father doing the killing in the guise of the Mother? Was the women we see in the very last shot of the film supposed to be Rika or the Mother? I ask because in the alternate ending commentary by the director, he keeps saying it is Rika but I'll be damned if it doesn't look like the Mother. Is there some cultural thing going on here that I, as a westerner not deeply immersed in japanese culture, am not picking up on?
Would seeing the two previous TV films make it any clearer?
Is there intentionally no clear answer?
I love the film for it's style and atmosphere but it's vague plot is frustrating my true enjoyment of it.
