| but can someone tell me when kingpin became black? |
casting decision. |
Yep, like "The Bone Collector" when gay white male, Thom, the home health aide, suddenly became Queen Latifah somewhere between page and screen.

Well they needed someone very large in size and figured Duncan would be able to get the audience to accept him as KP.

its a shame Erland van Lidth died back in 1987 (he was the Huge bald guy in The Wanderers as well as Dynamo in Running Man and Grossberger in Stir Crazy).
he would have been the perfect age and physical type for the character.
Duncan was alright, but the part wasn't really anything special. a pretty bland character actually.

And, with every new ‘reinvention’, these topical references get routinely updated. It’s called business and ‘keeping the franchise alive.’
|
It is a nessicary part of the business. As you said, teens don't like things that look 'dated'. Updating the references and the art is part of bringing a story to a new generation, just like remaking movies.
Speaking of Spiderman, the comic, I read a friend's copy of one of the Graphic Novels of the JMS run ("Sins Past"). Pretty good stuff. Nice way to slip something into Peter's past and make it fit.

Looks like number 3 may not be the last one after all...

I've heard Amy Pascal [chairman of Sony's motion picture group] say she wants to make six Spider-Man pictures," Raimi said in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles. "So I think she's a woman of her word. And if she says there'll be six, there'll be six. ... If they were to ask me, and if I felt as passionate as I feel now about the character and had this great hunger and desire to tell the story, which I really do now, you couldn't keep me away from it."

James Franco hasn't begun ``Spider-Man 3'' yet, but he came to the Riviera on a break from the United Kingdom, where he's filming ``Fly Boys,'' a romance about World War I's famed Lafayette Escadrille, a flying unit known for its bravery.
As for ``Spider-Man 3,'' which is expected to arrive in 2007, Franco said, ``I've met with (director) Sam Raimi a few times and we're planning on filming in January. . . . I thought the second one was better than the first, and I think this one will be better than both.''

AICN is doing some speculating on who Topher Grace will be playing. Harry definitly thinks he's going to be playing a second villan, and he has a source who thinks it is going to be Venom. Harry doesn't believe that part, tho he has said his source has come through before for him.

I'd like to see Topher Grace playing a villian. I think he has pretty decent range and will play well against the rest of the cast...

Raimi said they were going to do some filming for Spidey 4 as well once they start, so maybe thats what the Venom stuff is for.
