Yep, although by the time the third movie sees release, it'll be close to 20 years. I'm just saying, it's not like Venom is a "new" character any more, and is probably more recognizable than many of the "classic" ones.

Spidey wore the black alien costume a long time before it became Venom. I agree with whoever said Venom was good at first but quickly became tedious. All this talk about trusting Raimi . . . I'd trust him more if he didn't use Venom since he has said he doesn't even like Venom. One of the best rogues galleries in comics, and they go to freaking Venom?

At that link, Harry says he wants the McFarlane Kraven/Lizard storyline to be the basis for the next film. Those issues were pathetic. McFarlane was trying to ape DeMatteis's Kraven's Last Hunt, but didn't have the writing chops at that time (I'll allow he improved, though I haven't read anything of his beyond his own Spider-Man comic) to pull it off. DeMatteis used a lot of dialogueless passages with sound effects, and it was very effective. I don't think McFarlane got the concept, but he threw in a bunch of DOOM-DOOM-DOOM drumming "sounds" as an attempt. It was very bad.
I wouldn't mind seeing Kraven's Last Hunt filmed, but I think it would have to have some set-up to make it work, and there hasn't been anything like that in the current movies. It could be made to work, I guess, and the Lizard could even replace Vermin since he's already been introduced. Just, please, look to the proper source material here.
And, as I've said before, I would love to see Spidey in the black suit. I would expect the alien aspects to be removed, which is fine since Spidey wore a normal version for years after he ditched the symbiote. It could even just be for a sequence. Maybe he'd have reason to have a dark suit instead of the bright red-and-blues for a specific mission.

I have no interest in seeing Kraven as the villain in Spiderman III. I'd much prefer to see a villain that was in the 1960s Spidey cartoon television show. That would include the Lizard, Electro, Mysterio, the Vulture, the Scorpion, the Sandman, the Rhino, and the Kingpin. Some villain with an outlandish appearance with whom I have a childhood identification.
I'd prefer any of these to Venom as well. But even Venom would be preferable to Kraven. And Manwolf, what the heck is that? I don't even recall seeing that on the bloated 1990s cartoon television show, though Morbius would, I guess, be a close cousin.
Stick to the classics, please, Mr. Raimi.

I'm fairly sure that they can't use Kingpin, as that character is licensed to Fox. But other than that, I'm with you.
I myself am hoping for THC to play Sandman.

Well, I won't argue that Kraven would be a perfect choice. In fact, I've said that his star storyline would require too much setting up to really do right. But, you can't deny he's a classic. I don't know about the cartoon show, but he made his first appearance in the fifteenth issue of Amazing.
