Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
Well looks like I have a lot of Kevin Smith films to catch up on.
Does it hurt that I'm a big LOTR's fan?

Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
You know, Kevin Smith is a LOTR fan, albeit a more casual one, and this is coming from a non-fan (I don't have anything against LOTR, just not a fan) so it's not as if I'm in denial.
Many "South Park"/"Family Guy" fans couldn't accept that Trey Parker & Matt Stone genuinely hate "Family Guy" and they saw the fact that some of the characters on their show like it as proof that the creators like it. Similarly, many people assume that Randal's hatred for "LOTR" represents Smith's own feelings. They don't, one of Smith's stories involves him geeking out over Liv Tyler speaking Elvish to him on the set of "Jersey Girl".
Don't you ever, EVER compare me to "Family Guy," you hear me Kyle? Compare me to "Family Guy" again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand!
Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like 'Family Guy,' right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of 'Family Guy' Cartman!" I AM NOTHING LIKE FAMILY GUY! WHEN I MAKE JOKES THEY ARE INHERENT TO A STORY! DEEP SITUATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL JOKES BASED ON WHAT IS RELEVANT AND HAS A POINT, NOT JUST ONE RANDOM INTERCHANGEABLE JOKE AFTER ANOTHER!

Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
Just got back from seeing the flick and I haven't laughed that hard in a LOOOOOONG time. This may be my favorite Smith film of all and I've liked all of his movies up to this point(except Jersey Girl which I never had the desire to see). The LOTR rant by Randal is worth the price of admission all by itself. I've gotta admit that I was skeptical of whether or not this flick would be any good because I was afraid Kevin Smith couldn't pull off a sequel, but he really nailed this one. A very big .

I don't want to take the thread off topic but I think Jersey Girl is a fine movie. It may be too sweet for some people's tastes but I think it's at least worth a rental for any Kevin Smith fan just to see him shift gears a little bit.

Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
Travis,
I enjoyed it as well. It demonstrates a softer side of Smith, and I believe this to be quite underrated.

Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
Awsome movie. Laughed my ass off. He nailed it. Based on the trailers I thought I was prepared to be dissipointed but this movie was funnier than I could have ever imagined. I think this may have knocked the 40 year old virgin down a notch on my funniest movies ever list. I just have a thirst for crude humour, and this film quenched it.

I couldn't agree more, Jimi. I LOVED 40 Year Old Virgin(probably my favorite comedy in the last 5 years), but I think Clerks II is even funnier. It's just so over the top and no holds barred that I can't believe the MPAA didn't make him tone it down. Smith said in an interview that this was the first flick that they didn't make him go back and cut anything to get an R rating and he was shocked that they were fine with all the content. I guess the MPAA is cool with "interspecies erotica", "pillow pants" and "ass to mouth".

Re: Kevin Smith announces "Clerks 2"
I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith but "Clerks II" is still a notch below "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and I still think "Clerks II" is his best film yet.
