I too thoroughly enjoyed Alien vs. Predator
Unlike obsessed fanboys or those with an intense personal(?) hatred for Paul W.S. Anderson, I went in with little expectations other than seeing a cool sci-fi flick with some AvP action. That's what I got.
The FX were great, despite rumors to the contrary, and the look of the film was very cool. The production design, creature effects, sound design, etc. were all top notch.
The story was fine and suited the film well, as did the actors. Nothing extaordinary, but I wasn't expecting that.
Every once in a while, a film comes along that is turned into a whipping boy for fanboys and critics alike. AvP is that film, imo. People who haven't even seen it are trashing it, which always amazes me. Is it really that much to ask that you see a film before passing judgement on it. This seems to be happening more and more here at the HTF unfortunately.
This film had some great visuals, entertaining AvP fights, and was never boring for it's entire 90 minutes or so.
I also predict it will be a bigger hit on home video once those who were scared off by the bad reviews check it out.
Not the best in the series, but far from the worst, and is by far Anderson's best film to date, although I agree that's not saying much.
See it for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised....and then again, perhaps not.

Your points are my points so thanks for making them.
I read the whole thread, it is quite telling how the early posters lashed out and there has been quite a turnaround in reaction recently. Kinda makes you wonder whether some were more concerned about the effect on their Alien Quadrilogy set rather than giving this film a fair chance. Doesn't matter, my flat out prediction is that Alien Vs. Predator DVD will fly off the shelves upon release.
Also interesting that people seem to have trouble with the concept that Antarctica might have been warm in one part of Earth's history but don't equally struggle with the premise that the Queen Alien can be anchored to one spot for 100 years without any apparent ill effect ... hmmmm.
One thing I did miss. What was/happened to the weapon that the girl slid over to the Predator? Almost immediately, an Alien attacked and I lost track of it.

I just remembered something about the acid blood. Doesn't it completely oxidize upon death? I thought that's what Bishop said in Aliens. So it's not too far fetched that the acid works for a little while after death and not so afterwards.
Don't ask me how the acid oxidizes. I'm not aware of any acid blood that does that. Makes you wonder about the redox reaction for that.

Lewis Besze - It is to be assumed that the predators are superior. They had enough control over the aliens to force them into this 100 ritual and there wasn't much they could do about it. Also, as seen in the flashback and comics, a handful of predators could tear through numerous aliens due to their shoulder cannons and other technologies

Which is why I said this:

I also think most people went in with the preconcieved notion that the predators are superrior.

That was a statement not a question.

First of all, this screening was made up of industry professionals and filmmakers. No actors, but David Fincher, (Director of Alien 3) was there, which was cool.

As long as what they say in the movie is consistent within the movie itself, that's good enough for me. I believe it was.

I can't believe no one's griped about this: the last predator starts the timer on his nuke and he and the female lead start running like they expect to get clear of it. But they've been trapped in a pyramid where they have to wait ten minutes for each change of the walls to get into the next room!
Oh well...

Wasn't it the shoulder cannon? I thought the Predator used it a couple minutes later.

| The Queen Alien will most likely die...not from the cold water or the lack of oxygen but from the weight of the water tower thing that she was attached to dragging her down to the bottom of the ocean. |
Why not from the cold water or lack of O 2? We've seen the Aliens live in the vacuum of space, but that's not to say how long they could.

Has anyone mentioned the idea of the pyramid shifting from the Cube movies? Interesting. I had no expectations going in, and I liked the story; I thought it would have been much worse, actually. I enjoyed it. One thing we thought of though... Can't Predators run faster than humans? (He could have carried her and run faster than her)
