Quentin Tarrintino? Spike Lee? John Cassavetes? Alfred Hitchcock? Steven Soderbergh? George Lucas?(ever seen Beverly Hills Cop 3? He has a cameo.)

There's likey much more I'm forgetting but I think you get the gist. Which director(s) do you think is also actually a good actor?

Peter Bogdanovich
Garry Marshall

(Not Oscar-calibre, but certainly good enough.)

Ron Howard is more of an actor-turned-director, so I hesitate to call him a director that can act (likewise Mel Gibson).

If we aren't going to count actors who became directors, I thought M. Night Shylaman was pretty good in Signs.

Mel's a good one, even though he was an actor first. I probably should have made it more clear that the person started as a director and eventually acted in a movie, not vice-versa.

Paul Mazursky and John Houston: 2 directors that IMO are damn good actors.

Oh and also Orson Welles!

I always thought Orson Welles had great charisma on screen.

I thought he was awful in Signs. I'm not sure if he is in The Village but I hope this isn't the start of a new trend in his films, speaking roles aren't for him.

Sydney Pollack comes to mind. He was very good in Changing Lanes.
