New York Minute- The Olsen Twins finally come of age...or something...
I'm more excited about this film than Van Helsing this weekend! I'm surprised no one has started a discussion thread since this is (to my knowledge) the first Olsen twins film that is getting a full-blown theatrical release...so here you go!
Hey somebody had to start the discussion! I'll report back after seeing it this Friday!

It might just be me, but every time I look at the Olsen Twins I think of a younger Christine Taylor (Ben Stiller's wife)... especially when I watch the new "Dodgeball" trailer.

Well, sure, it's got Eugene Levy and Andy Richter, which puts it ahead of Van Helsing already (sadly, Underworld killed my ability to be excited by a movie solely on the basis of Kate Beckinsale in black leather).
Very peculiar to watch the trailer, though - sometimes I'll go to a kids' movie or see a trailer and think I might have found it funny when I was younger or that it looks kind of clever... This one, though, is just complete confirmation that I don't know how 12-year-old girls think (since even if the Olsens are 17, their target audience is younger). Just a complete disconnect from my ability to be amused.

I think the whole plot of the movie makes me cringe and has me in disbelief that this whas even made. This sounds like such an awful movie but I will still see it since I see everything that comes out but I don't have to enjoy it.
"One day in New York City, as Jane Ryan (Ashley Olsen) tries out for an Oxford college program and her sister Roxy (Mary-Kate Olsen is a rebel who is trying to sneak backstage at shoot with Simple Plan to hear her demo tape, a series of mishaps throws their day into chaos. In order for them both to accomplish their goals, the normally adversarial sisters decide to unite against the forces around them."

Hey, Kangaroo Jack managed to get funding...so I'm not that surprised this is on the big screen. It's actually clever counter-programming to "Van Helsing", since there really aren't any kid films out right now. Plus, it's another step on the way to the inevitable Olsen twins porno that will be leaked to the internet 5 or 6 years from now. It's like watching a train wreck, you just can't look away, but you SHOULD.

What the hell is the super-talented Eugene Levy doing in this? I hope he's at least getting a nice fat pay check.

Actually, this is their second theatrical release. Their first was 1995's It Takes Two.
This new movie looks horrible. The plot synopsis that Michael posted is completely ridiculous. "In order for them both to accomplish their goals, the normally adversarial sisters decide to unite against the forces around them." The forces around them? What exactly could happen to two tourists in the course of a day that would require them to unite against the forces around them? Did the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man decide to return? Were they attacked by Shredder and his band of foot soldiers? Did King Kong decide to scale their hotel? These are the kinds of things that would prevent someone from accomplishing their goals, not petty stuff like getting splashed by a puddle.

Yes, that's true. However, not EVERY asian person eats dog meat, and the fact is that a movie aimed towards pre-teens and children shouldn't be pushing particular stereotypes. The point is that it's in poor taste.
