So does James Berdanelli's. I don't understand it; did they not get the message from the first one that QT didn't want the audience knowing her name until a certain point?

Someone reported that her name is seen in Vol. 1 on her ticket, so perhaps they don't think it's a big secret any more?

Well, to be honest, Tarrantino uses this as a stylistic device, it is not an important plot point. But if it is played out like in the script, it certainly will be a more effective occurence when it is uttered for the first time if you don't know her name. Remember that you could have already catched her name on the plane ticket in Volume 1, though.

Spoiler:
Bill even uses her real first name in the first scene.

I just got back from seeing Vol. 2, so I went over and read Ebert's review. What's lame is that he refers to her as The Bride throughout the entire review, except for one throwaway line where he says, "her name, by the way, is _______"! That was pretty weak.

Malcolm, yes, her full name is on the plane tickets in Vol. 1, when she goes to Okinawa and then when she goes to Tokyo. But it's only a split-second both times, and you'd have to freeze-frame the picture to see it (which you can do on the DVD). I had heard her first name on some message board back when Vol. 1 was in the theaters, so I did pause the DVD when I was watching it last night, and there it is.

But, this is only something an obsessed hard-core fan (like me) would even think of doing. Her name clearly isn't supposed to be revealed for anyone who's just watching the movie to have a good time. And, the first time it's used in Vol. 2, it's beeped out again, just like in Vol. 1 in the scene with Vernita, in case anybody forgot about that from not having seen Vol. 1 in a while. So no reviewer should reveal it, clearly.

In Vol. 2, there's a funny little flashback-type thing right when her full name is revealed, to accentuate the fact that this is really a payoff for something that's been hidden since Vol. 1. And Dominik, let me correct your spoiler with my own:

Spoiler:
Bill uses her real LAST name in the opening scene of Vol. 1, the scene where he shoots her in the head. It's often used as a term of endearment, which is what you assume it is when you hear it then, although you later find out that it's really her LAST name.

Don't just rag on Ebert, EVERY review I have read of KBII has mentioned her name.

I don't get it; it seems like such a jerk thing to do. I mean, when I'm writing a review, I try to go out of my way to avoid mentioning any specific event in the movie. I figure that the job of a film reviewer is to let the reader know whether it's worth a trip, and I think you can do that without giving away part of the film.

i read the review and just saw the first 1/2 of the movie last night (you know...the 1/2 they named Vol.1 and charged you full price for).
whats the "big deal" about her name anyway?
whats so special about it? ( i mean besides the fact that it is Tarrentino who is stringing together a couple quirky words)

why is it so special that it deserves a highlighted payoff?

This thread having served its warning purpose, please take all further discussion to the Official Discussion thread.

BTW, the Bride's real name has been listed at IMDB for quite some time.
