I wanted to specifically discuss this film, because I've always felt it was as good as A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back (give or take).
I think people blow the Ewok thing completely out of proportion too. They're supplimentary characters at best (unlike in The Phantom Menace where Jar-Jar is in every other frame) and the point of primitive underdog taking on the big, bad Empire is still a compelling story thematic IMO.
Also I think Jedi, not Empire, is the darkest of the three films. ESB is more of a "mysterious" type of film with a hell of an ending, but in ROTJ, things just get plain dreary especailly with the Emperor stepping into the lime light. We also get introduced (ahem, pre-SEs I guess) to the villainous Jabba the Hutt and get to see Princess Leia in her PG-13 metal bikini.
If Vader is the symbolic embodiment of evil, then the Emperor is definitely the beating heart of the dark side. You *really* sense Luke's struggle in trying to resist. The laughter from Palpatine is just spine tingling.
Not to mention that is one incredible space battle at the end there -- IMO it has not been topped by anything since even with massive special effects improvements since 1983. I mean really this is one of the greatest action sequences put on film.
I don't think there is a better "good vs. evil" fantasy trilogy as the Star Wars OT (sorry LOTR and prequels)... and Jedi is the one that makes the whole thing really resonate for me. People are just way too stuck on the whole Ewok thing.
