In America
I just had a chance to see this film today and I didn't see a dedicated thread, so I figured I'd start one. I went into it with high expectation, and I'm glad to say I wasn't the least bit disappointed. One of the best things about the movie is that you could spend hours arguing over which character constitutes the "heart of the movie," and you probably couldn't go wrong with any of about five choices. The two little girls who play the daughters are just delightful in their optimism and their ability to take comfort in one another and their dead brother. Maybe it's a bit contrived, but they pull it off. The main reason I wanted to see the movie was Djimon Honsou, and his performance certainly lived up to, maybe even exceeded, my expectations. My only complaint about him, and the movie in general, is that his character wasn't given enough screen time. Overall, a very touching, poignant and at times funny film that anyone with a heart (or people without one, like me) should love.
\"Old theatres are irreplaceable. They could never be duplicated at today\'s costs - but more importantly, their spirit could not be duplicated because they remind us of a day when going to the show was a more glorious and escapist experience. I think a town\'s old theatres are the sanctuary of its dreams.\"-Roger Ebert
