Thanks for all your suggestions, guys! This is a fun thread.
The child's last name will be Kellman. (I kept my maiden name when I got married.) We are thinking of using my last name as either a first or second middle name. (My dad only had 2 daughters and was an only hild-- plus I love my last name and want to carry it on somehow.)
I definitely like the idea of a non-obvious reference. One of the names we like so far is Audrid, which is a reference to Star Trek DS9. Audrid was a previous host for the Dax symbiont so she was only mentioned a few times but never shown. My husband likes it because it is a cross between Audrey and Astrid, two names we also like.
So far I really like the suggestions Kane and Zira. I love had 2 daughters, and he was an only child, plus I love my Planet of the Apes! Kane would sound better with Kellman, though. I like alliteration (my own initials are JJJ). Kane Kellman, also sounds like a comic book hero! We also like the name Cale, as in John Cale.
I know James Bond movies have lots of double entendre names, but the only one I can think of now that I really like is Anya-- after Barbara Bach's character XXX Major Anya Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me. It is also a Buffy reference, too.
Right now our favorite boys name is Adrian-- not a specific reference, it has just always been my favorite male name for as long as I can remember.
I should find out the baby's sex in about 5-6 weeks, so hopefully that should help me narrow the field a bit.
I seem to have an easier time coming up with boys names I like and my girl name list is severely lacking. I am trying to think of maybe a cool old movie star or something. I always thought Gene Tuerney had a cool spelling of her name-- my dad's name is Gene so that would be kind of cute to honor him that way. I also like the name Veronica, as in Veronica Lake. I have long blond hair and I often emulate her "peek-a-boo" hairstyle.
