Well this isn't the worse such list I've ever seen, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Let's see:
Titanic ranks higher than
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Third Man
Psycho
Rear Window
Chinatown
North by Northwest
not to mention The Apartment which didn't even make the list?
I've seen nearly every thing on that list, think 49 of the films are great, and the rest are overrated.

ALthough, I hardly think it belongs on a "best ever" list, so dignified as this (insert smirk), it is a wonderful little film. All of course my opinion. Noticed #12, and I'm still floored by this list.
There is going to be punchline coming?
This is some elaborate psychological study?
I'm spooked when I've seen every movie on the list.

Now Zen, even though Donnie Darko (#21)is not as fine a film as Pirates of the Carribean, (#19) it is better than Citizen Kane (#22).
To be honest, after starting the list, I was surprised to find Citizen Kane even on the list.

I'm surprised too. It looks so out of place.

Why not? It was infinitely more popular then all of them, and it won a slew of Oscars, more than any other film, stands to reason the people out there rate it so highly. It's not a shocking surprise to me.
There is nothing wrong with any of those 100 films, there are no turkeys, no Gigli's or Battlefield Earth's, nothing cringeworthy unless you're a paid member of the snob elite, who anyway can barely stand to see CK and 2001 mixing it up with likes of LOTR and Star Wars.

Well I have no problem with Lord of the Rings or Star Wars films being on a list with films like Citizen Kane, although having them all up at the top is a bit ridiculous.

I'm not surprised given that this is basically a current popularity tally. I wasn't surprised, I was just commenting on why this isn't a very good greatest films list, Titanic may be more popular than all of those films, but it certainly isn't anywhere as good.
Citizen Kane does seem a bit out of place, but then again, it's a very well known "classic film", so it's probably not too surprising to see it. I actually consider The Third Man and 12 Angry Men to be more surprising on this list.

Given that Empire is aimed at 18-25 year old men, I think this list is pretty reflective of their interests. It's certainly no more ridiculous than the AFI Top 100 American Films listing British films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Third Man and Bridge on the River Kwai.

What? Does this mean Brits are bigger Star Wars geeks than us? Does this mean we're falling behind in the Geek Race? Sound the alarm! Call up senator Joe McCarthy! Damn redcoats!

No it just means we're bigger Rings geeks than all of you! And proud of it.
According to Empire mag, the votes for ROTK were still pouring in when the list was being prepared, and it still made it to no.8, it says if it had opened earlier it would have placed much higher up.
I'd hazard a guess that a Yank edition of this list would have had Spider-Man in the top 10, maybe at no.1, along with X-Men2, Matrix Reloaded, Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace (which amazingly missed out in the Empire 100 was it that bad?), and of course the 7 Police Academys, 3 American Pies and 11 Friday the 13ths would also make the hypothetical 100 greatest as voted by US cinemagoers, oh and you can forget about CK and 2001 making any appearances in that list.

I'd be willing to bet most of the people that voted for Citizen Kane were just trying to impress their friends or something.
