De-Lovely is an apt title for a film so unremittingly dour and joyless. It doesn't help that director Irwin Winkler gives it a flat, drab, sterile look. Ashley Judd is marvelous, but even the songs, which one would think would be a major part of the attraction, are lifeless due to the overall mood of the film. B-

Lower than Dodgeball if you read my last post. The first 5 minutes were almost walk-out bad for me. The script starts dreadful and never gets better in the least. HOWEVER, the cast is so strong that they are able to find great laughs in spite of the script, and based on the credits gag reel it would appear that much of the best laughs came from scenes of riffing.

Ferrell and Steve Carell especially shine, with Carell stealing the show from a 2nd top comedian in the last year (Bruce Almighty the last time). My only regret is that his success means his Daily Show appearances are dwindling.

Like Old School this is another tragic waste of good characters and premise, settling for mostly mediocre with a few high points that are destined for the reference hall of fame once the film circulates cable heavily (again, like Old School). Bonus kudos though for the clever use of a Smokey and the Bandit 2 clip.

Next up for me, the highly anticipated "best film of the year" BEFORE SUNSET (note, I just put Before Sunrise into my Netflix queue since I've never seen it).

Let me fudge here with a few films coming early in the 2nd 6 months and put up my first half top 10 with only 16 total viewings in so far (basically none of the weaker films and not Passion or Void yet either).

I did queue up basically every major 2004 release that I have missed so far and will be mixing it in with my S&S rentals in an attempt to catch up with some of you.

We all keep it in one post, but you might like to know that we use this thead primarily for 2004 Released Films. Some of us keep record of pre-2004 films but usually seperate the two sections, the first list in the thread is a good example of how some of us divide up the films into various sections.
