I think, though, he realizes even as a critic or someone who dislikes the film, this kind of "bash all" review does nothing to help the cause of debating it.
|
Has Poland seen the film yet? I'm dying to read some reviews from mainstream movie critics.

Wow - Dave let it go with both barrels!
Can't wait to see how Fox News replies to this.

Roger Friedman:

If you live... in Beverly Hills and you want to see Mel Gibson's controversial new movie "The Passion of the Christ," you will be out of luck.

David Poland:

If Friedman wanted to make any effort - it took me one 30-second phone call - he could have found out that The Passion of The Christ is playing Pacific's theater at The Grove, the highest grossing theater in America these days...
|
Friedman does not know what he is talking about as already been proven wrong by Poland. He clearly has a hidden agenda. And this guy is a reporter?
Yes, The Grove is one of the most upscale theaters in L.A. The Passion is even showing in one of the best theaters in Hollywood, The Arclight, with a midnight showing. I have been to both locations and for a film to play at these theaters means that it will be reaching critical mass.
What a doofus.

Friedman is likely counting on his readers either believing him over anyone else or simply not knowing enough to find out themselves. Poland pretty clearly destroyed his arguments. How many of the regular Friedman readers even know about Poland?
Take care,
Chuck

Indeed...so many will take it at face value, since he's a 'journalist' working for a major, mainstream site.
Hope he faces repurcussions. What an idiot.
What makes this more interesting is that Friedman works for the same company that anchors its lineup with Bill O'Reilly of The O'Reilly Factor. O'Reilly has been an ardent support and defender of Gibson's right to produce and distribute The Passion.
This evening, O'Reilly will discuss the film that he screened last night. Perhaps he'll publicly rebuke his colleague on tonight's show. This will be a good test of FNC's adherence to its 'Fair and Balanced' tagline.

Someone should at least email O'Reilly Poland's articles so he becomes aware of the mistakes, if he hasn't already. I doubt he's one to peruse film sites.

I was at Costco and overheard 2 guys in their 50s talk about "The Passion of the Christ".
Guy 1 asks "Are you going to see that movie, the one about the crucifixion?"
Guy 2 said "Oh yeah! ... I hear it's pretty brutal. It's suppose to start next week I think"
I was just surprised to overhear such a conversation at a Costco, no less. Perhaps I've underestimated the public's awareness of this film opening next week.

It has gained so much press it is hard to skip under anyone's radar, I brought it up at lunch with the J6P's and everyone had heard of it and were anxious to see it next week. They didn't realise it was in Aramaic w/ subtitles and that seemed to really dampen their enthusiasm.
