| Let's see if any of the press pick up the real numbers. They've been reporting with great glee the toppling of the "King" all day today. |
Which is cleary why Sony estimated optimistically. They've got it in a lot of people's minds that Big Fish was #1. Hope they didn't go ahead and cut new commercials though...

Ha ha ha! Well, I'll tell you, I'm listening to Movie City News' estimates from now on.

They'll pick it up, alright, but not with the same intensity as the estimates. It will be relegated to page 2 or 3 of the Life section for some of the print media.
Sony got what they wanted for overestimating as much as they did.

I've looked online at CNN, Fox News, ABC, CBS, and MSNBC, and NONE of them have reported that Rings ended up #1 after all.

All right, FINALLY Reuters has reported it, and the AFP, but I've yet to see any of the networks pick up on the story.

The media (entertainment or otherwise) care far more about a "grabber" headline than they do a factual story. I heard someone THIS MORNING report that BF had won the weekend Good research.
But I don't really care. It was close, and congrats to Big Fish. Like I said, I'd rather ROTK was #2 to BF than #2 to Tad Hamilton, etc. It's going to be #2 sooner or later.
Take care,
Chuck

Next weekend will be interesting. Can Big Fish keep up those numbers or is that as high as it goes.
Wouldn't be surprised to ROTK & BF finishing 1-2 again.

I'll be surprised if Along Came Polly or Torque doesn't finish first next weekend. I expect ROTK to drop to 10 million and I'll be surprised if neither of the above doesnt' gross at least that.

I would compare the numbers for Along Came Polly to Bruce Almighty. And those numbers are pretty high, the latter movie grossed $67,953,330 on its first weekend. Sadly, ROTK will be quite knocked off the first place.
